Now, I really didn't think I'd have to explain that..........

A pine tree with some basic winter trimmings or sparkly bits or whatever would be fine for people who want it. But personally, I'd rather not have this fictional world adopt the trappings of a religious holiday from another universe. Seeing Santas or Christmas ornaments is taking things too far in my opinion. Weakens the experience of Tamriel.

I mean... so may of the ornaments are just sparkly balls? there doesn't need to be a santa or anything, just mini garlands of lights - think argonian strands, but smaller; and colorful balls, like the beads on https://eso.mmo-fashion.com/wood-orc-dream-catcher/

not that santa is particularly christian either, he is basically a pagan personification of cold weather, but Santa is still completely unnecessary. and a lot of other decorations are very non religious. snowflakes, icicles, sparkly balls, pine cones, etc.

I'm sorry I just really love these darn trees. in RL I have at least one in every room starting by the end of November and staying well into Feb, because I'm an adult and i do what i want in my own house >_> :P its realy a natural extension of enjoying decorating.

I can only click "agree" once, which is a travesty.

i'm here to escape real life. i don't want real life stuff in eso.

Here's what I'm thinking...... they can make a pretend tree, and put it in a pretend world like in an online game, rather than create a real life one that they ship to your address. How's that? Maybe it can come with a ladder, so you can escape up it?

pipes in for a second. topiaries from Skywatch work ok, but they are a little too topiary like.

there is a slightly less organized version that looks IMo a bit more like a christmas tree. not perfect, but closer https://eso.mmo-fashion.com/topiary-pruned-cypress/

the ones from Auridon look like this https://eso.mmo-fashion.com/topiary-manicured-evergreen/

I just personaly prefer the less spiraled look of the one from Ebonheart (and it costs almost half as much as the skywatch version :D )

Btw, xmas trees have nothing to do with the birth of Christ. It's actually a tradition from Yuletide, a Pagan holiday.

There already are semblances of real world holidays...

I don't mind a holiday that kind of parallels the atmosphere of things like Hallowe'en; e.g. Witches' Festival is just spooky stuff with ghosts and pumpkins, can be given a Tamrielic twist and fits pretty well in the existing world. Similarly, having something like a 'Winterfest' makes sense. (Well, some sense, given Tamriel seems to have no seasons in-game. It does in lore.)

GW2 does something like this; they also celebrate a few major holidays from other cultures with independent, in-game analogues like Lunar New Year as (I think?) Dragon Festival.

Some kind of tree with decorations that fit the existing in-game world/cultures makes sense to me. Same with general winter-themed items, or the wonderfully bizarre fish-tree Rouven made. (I suggest garlic, by the way.) I can't agree with you on Santa, even if there's some ambiguity in whether Christian or Pagan sources are more relevant to the background. It's just too specific, has no precedent and an analogue would place too much demand on suspension of disbelief.

    Good luck with your decorations.

I vote YES, but as a non-native English speaker I understand Christmas tree by any nicely shaped coniferous tree that can be decorated :)

I can understand worries of things being lore unfriendly or bringing RL into a game, but as a home owner in ESO I would love to be able to buy (gold preferably) a tree that I could afterwards decorate as I wish.
And no, existing topiaries are not it.

There's a perfect example of the tree I mean :
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/4620934#Comment_4620934

Give as this existing in game asset in at least size small and standard, preferably a snowcovered version as well for outside.
That would be a great Christmas present ZOS - to add them to regular furnishing vendor, or to New Life event if you must :)

I think a lot of people are against the "Christmas tree" because we're calling it "Christmas." Obviously if there were a "Christmas" tree culture/whatever on Nirn there wouldn't be any true references to Earth culture. I think a New Life Festival tree could work as an evergreen with candles (could function as a lighting object that could be switched on or off), natural garland, birds, or apples as decorations so that the player doesn't need to waste 20 item slots on one item

yes, I can't speak for others but this is precisely what I would love, if I cannot get what i really want and that is more item slots as well as better selection of coniferous evergreens /smaller garlands

^^ That is the house I'd love to see being sold for gold (and crowns) at Christmas, like the cottage which was reasonable price range and plenty of slots for it's size.
And I guess that is kind of "Christmas" tree that wouldn't be lore unfriendly.

Speaking of which, I can understand how costumes or pets can break someone's immersion, but furniture??? For goodness sake, you (whomever it might concern) will not see this furniture unless you buy it or recklessly visit a homestead lover's house. So there is almost no chance for people who don't buy the said tree to see it and "break the immersion".
I respect everybody's opinion, but that one argument is a bit unvalid in the case of furniture.
