As I reported previously on the PTS Patch Notes for the initial release of the Homesteads update, Entry and Exit to/from the Gardner House is bugged. The bug was subsequently corrected in a patch of the PTS, but I have discovered that it remains in the release to "live", i.e., in the game.
The Gardner House homestead has three entrances. One is a gate through a wall into the yard, from which a PC can then enter the house through the "front door". The second is a "side door" on the east side of the house, down the street from the Y intersection where the yard gate is located. The third is the "back door" which opens from/to a terrace (along a creek that runs behind the house) that is accessible from two streets.
The bug: a PC is always placed outside the entrance which the PC used to enter the Homestead, regardless of the exit which the player chose to "Leave Home".
The jarring displacement totally trashes immersion when the PC exits through a different entrance. It is simply a strange, weird, disorienting experience that should not occur. For example, when your PC exits through the back door, the PC should not be placed outside the yard gate simply because that was what the PC used to enter the Homestead.
