I don't know which thread to post this in, but I think it's important to get developer attention to, so this was my best guess.
I spend some time each week in the tutorial messaging new players, welcoming them to the game and offering a guild invite if they want it.
This may sound crazy or inappropriate or wasteful or any number of things, but it's what I do.
My biggest issue is that no one gets my messages.
my experience with the chat:
- upon logging in, it is 'hidden' in the corner, and won't be shown until you click the corner triangle, or press enter (or whatever you use to type in the box)
- if you open the settings/game menu, it hides again temporarily, so any chat that happens during then, you won't see
- if you aren't using chat, the text goes transparent temporarily after 30 seconds or so.
- additionally, the mail icon is very buggy and doesn't usually show the correct unread count when you receive mail
I love a lot of things about this game but this makes it hard to be social, especially consider I'm on a platform with a mandatory keyboard and on a game that is online only, it almost seems like i'm discouraged from using my keyboard to chat with others.
Not only should I be able to see the chat all the time from the start, the hiding of it should be something that is defaulted to ON and able to change our settings to manipulate it. Even with third party addons it still has its issues, but a lot of people don't use addons, let alone at the start of playing.
This of course extends to general gameplay, not just me trying to recruit newbies to my guild.
There is often time sensitive stuff in chat, like trade offers or groups forming, people trying to be friendly, and it's just messed up that often we don't see those messages until much later. It's my understanding that the corner glows blue when you have a whisper, but if you're busy you probably won't notice it. Especially in an area like Coldharbour that has flickering blue light all over.
TL;DR :
please unhide the chat by default, and give us more settings other than font size
