Magelight spell not working

I have been attempting to use the Magelight spell from the mages guild skill line but unfortunately it does not seem to work. All that happens is that it drains some magicka then does half of the animation. I am not animation canceling or anything so I have no idea what is going on. I am using a generation one Xbox one and I am on the NA servers.

Sometimes the magelight ball just doesn't display.

Check your characters active effects (char screen + scroll down)
you may see magelight displayed there next to your mundus stone and other boosts

you can also see its effects on your spell crit, even when its invisible

As mentioned above Magelight doesn't always show the orbiting ball, but going into the Character tab shows active Buffs/Debuffs.

The perils of standard UI. You are actually not spending magicka, your pool increases because of mage light activation and needs to be regenerated first - which is why it seems as if you spend magicka. As mentioned, check character sheet and you will see increased magicka and increased spell crit (if you use inner light, don't remember at all what the unmorphed one is supposed to do...)

I had the same issue and thought but it is on. I've had other players confirm that they see it even though I don't.

I discovered the magelight ball only apears when activated next to the wayshrines. Must use that blue ethereal flame for power or something ;-)
