TL:DR - Based in 1.6 update which of the 2 classes do you find is overall more powerful (non-destroy / resto staff) in Melee (2H & DW). The Dragonknight or Nightblade.
The way I see things right now based on upfront damage the Dragonknight just offers so much raw power to groups and in solo play.
- Unstable flame will scale with stamina making it overall more powerful + the buff to damage it received
- Fiery Breath stamina AND also drops an opponents armor while raising the damage done with fire attacks (unstable flame synergy)...basically making this a free Surprise attack like the Nightblade
- Burning talons is a great root + general damage AOE as always when you compare it to Path of Darkness from the Nigthblade it just feels overall better and cleaner...more powerful and meaningful to use...
- Leap shield - okay that's insane...
While compared to a Nightblade:
- Stealth yes but we have invis pots like always but assuming the person you are fighting is an idiot or its pve...you have a 3.5 second advantage here - GREAT - you can stun them and it always crits...this is a good utility spell
- Surprise attack - similar to fiery breath but is a hard CC if combed correctly assuming not combed its okay.
- Grim focus - pure pve weaving - impossible to do it constantly in pvp...so great high spike damage
- Power Drain still good for some AOE relief
- Ambush stamina - okay great...and is a true class gap closer giving us the ability to stick to targets - but for pve its not the important I do not think...DK's do not have this option and fiery grip doesn't count...its not a true gap closer imo. I need to go S/B or 2H so DW is out of the question sadly
- Killers Blade / Impale: this is a clear advantage to the Nightblade because we have a built in execute - Dragonknights do not have a class execute
Am I missing something here? For solo pve, light pvp and mostly endgame raiding and things...are nightblades not really meant overall for PvE?
I see them being INSANE for pvp...I mean seriously - their damage and utility is just insane with shades and fear.
Can someone help me understand what I am missing? Id like to go DW + S/B as my main weapons.
Medium Armor 5 and Heavy armor 2 Redguard.
Thank you in advance
Matthew
NBs will never be as powerful as DKs in straight up melee combat as long as the NB lacks a good self heal and a class based damage shield.
Strife is not a good self heal. most people in PVP either block cast or use a lot of damage shields. strife heals based on damage done, and there is little-no damage that can and will be done against a block caster or a damage shield stacker/spammer, making strife completely useless as a self-heal.
in PvE its ok, but not great
I propose some kind of "siphoning shield" ability; a damage shield that heals you based on lets say 30% or so of the damage the shield takes, similar to what hardened ward does(or whichever morph it is)
thats just my 2 cents though, im sure other people have better ideas.

As far as a 1v1 scenario goes, NBs will almost always beat a DK in PvP due to fear, and Shades, and their general ability to weave in abilities combined with Fear/Shades and destroy the opponents stamina, therefor rendering them susceptible to further CC and killers blade.
For straight up combat, NBs aren't the go to class as like Cody pointed out, no burst heal that's very good, combine Harness Magicka, Healing Ward, Strife, and Rapid Regen for some serious HoT though. Entropy ontop of all that if you're feeling special, they can make very good tanks both in PvP and PvE, I'll generalize my sap tank set up for N'tel.
5H/2L
Scales of the Dragon (5 Set Heavy)
Malubeth's Scourge (Undaunted 2 Piece Set)
Dominion's Potentate (PvP 3 Piece Set)
So basically I have a 25% reduction in the cost of my ultimate, a set that can proc and increase my incoming heals by 30%, Scales of the Dragon also increases healing received, magicka recovery, Dominion's Potentate increases stamina recovery by 11, I think N'tel has around 140 magicka recovery, 120 stam recovery, and I stack Rapid Regen/Structured Entropy/Swallow Soul, so I have about 250-400 heals every second. Run around 2.4k Maximum Magic, 3.8k Health and 1.2k Stam inside Cyrodiil.
The reason I don't care about stamina is because when I'm tanking, with siphoning attacks toggled on, and spamming sap essence or entropy, you basically generate free stamina and in no way possible can you run out. It's the best ability in game, NBs lack self heals but have amazing resource management.
If you want to be able to tank and kill things, DKs are the way to go, not as tanky, definitely more damage. Though I'm not entirely sure how well they'll be in 1.6, as nearly every class got nerfs/buffs, every player got nerfed, so we'll see.
@Cody How's that post for condescending?

Like, creates a point damage shield for 30% max health, one morph heals you for 30% damage taken? Something like that. Always thought it was *** that I had to go resto to obtain survivability as a NB.

When you act like a jerk. I WILL call you out. What you said in that thread was completely uncalled for and was a very good example of how to talk down to people and act like a jerk.
As stupid and ridiculous as this will sound, it was nothing personal:) I just felt offended when you basically said a 3 month long time investment was a waste of time. I did not read your reply, so I have NO idea what you said in response. I am going to keep it that way so we can preserve what civility we have left between each other.
