Alchemy: 25% decrease in production. Why?

Hello, perhaps this has been discused elsewhere, but I could not find it, so I post here.

I noticed that in PTS now you can produce max 3 units per craft of any given potion. In live we can produce 4 potions per craft. This is a 25% reduction.
  • Could someone explain why this reduction? havent seen in patch notes, but perhaps I missed it.
  • Could someone explain what do we get as counterpart for this loss?. Better potions?

Thanks for your inputs

    Wow, I didn't notice this.

If I had to guess I'd say it was an attempt to force players to use the ZoS Cash shop potions by making farming/buying player crafted potions too expensive.

Note: this can be somewhat offset by certain champion point distributions if you had the ability to turn one of your alts into a farming only specialized character.

Wow I did not notice this. Is it part of the tooltip for the skill, or just what happens when you try to craft?

Either way, I will add it to my recent list of changes/issues with potions in 1.6

I suspect this is going to have a major affect on the economy in PVP since so many players suck down potions like candy. Obviously the price is going to rise. What a stupid change..........

I just logged onto PTS and tested this. My copied character still makes potions 4 at a time, and the tooltip for Chemistry passive still says "produces 3 extra potions per attempt". Maybe this is an issue with the template character?

    Will upload screenshot shortly.

Possibly. Need to determine what the actual number is. I know a lot of folks who won't like spending 12k for 75 pots instead of 100.

I just tested it and made some potions, drinks and foods, and it seems to be a tooltip typo. It says 3 but it crafts 4 in all cases.

I tested it with a template char and wiht my "normal" V14 NB with maxed alchemy with the same results.

So it seems to be an easy tooltip fix and nothing else :)

    EDIT:

Btw, In fact I noticed that the max level potions (tripots) do have now an extra 20% health/stam/magika regeneration for +/- 30 seconds each. Much better than anything in the Crown store yet. So this is a plus for ZOS this time I guess ;)

Semantics maybe. "3 extra" would be in addition to initial one that is created.

The tooltip says "3 extra," which means you create your original 1 item, then that passive creates 3 extra ones, for a total of 4. Or at least that's how I interpreted it.

It could perfectly be the case :)

There has not been a nerf to alchemy. Just logged in and tested it. You will get 4 total potions per craft with the passive. EXACTLY, how it is on live. Also, it worded the same as it is on live. You get up to 3 potions extra. For a total of 4.

Also, potion prices will go down if nothing else changes due to the 45 sec cooldown. This will make stacks of 100 pots last a lot longer, especially dps pots which are used on cooldown.

I would be surprised if prices dropped very much. Given how potions are now part of the Major/Minor system, and thus compete with the buffs/effects from abilities, I foresee a lower demand for +damage/+crit potions because their effects will be rendered useless by what abilities provide. Between all class and weapon skills, everyone has access to at least 1 Major +damage buff, so why waste money on a potion that does the same thing? This makes stat potions a more reliable choice, which I think would increase the demand for them. For the same reason, I can also see people now wanting 2-effect potions (+crit and +magicka, for example) instead of three since, like I said, the third effect would likely just be overwritten by a buff from an ability.

Yes. 3 extra means the 1 original plus 3 for a total of 4.

Yup, the first potion you create isn't considered extra.

You create one potion+ 3 EXTRA. The wording is a bit misleading.

It is still 4 potions so don't worry. ALSO with the champion system perks people will be gathering nodes 50% faster as well as have a chance to get double materials..... so this will actually make it easier and less time consuming for your gathering needs
