[Video] Siphoning Attacks vs Shields - Dev Response Appreciated

I have tested and confirmed that siphoning attacks is not working against shielded targets. This has become a much larger problem in 1.6 because shields have become exponentially stronger, rendering this great ability nearly useless. Here is the video:

After rewatching the video, the only time that there is any return of stamina/magicka is when the shields break and damage is shown. Some say that this is intended and not a bug at all, and I would like this officially clarified if that is the case.

"While toggled, basic weapon attacks restore 3% Magicka and Stamina, but Weapon and Spell Damage reduced by 24%. 10% chance all attacks to restore 15% Magicka and Stamina."

The tooltip reads that it is supposed to give the resource return "on attack" and not "on damage' so I do hope that it is a bug.

If it is indeed intentional, then I will have to alter my build significantly and possibly remove this ability all together. Please let us know either way. :)

My solution: Let players keep the damage shields, but allow proc abilities and crit damage to calculate as if there was no shield active. At the same time allow shields to inherit all armor and spell resistance as well, so that players can utilize both types of abilities if they wish to make their shields stronger.

    It was brought up before and the Devs said it was intended.

    That said, balance has changed dramatically and it's possible they may revise that position as PTS goes on.

    Going by the wording of the description, any attack that lands against something should return magicka/stamina given that the return isn't directly related to how much damage you do.

    The only thing that shouldn't work on shields are things that are triggered by damage being done to your opponents health.

    Actually, shield prevent from ANY other effect than pure damage against the shield himself. No proc, no crit, no dot…
    I don't know if it's a bug or if it's intended, but we have to deal with that, unless ZOS change that on the 1.6.2.

    umm. shields are just too strong now and need to be reduced. Maybe make it so that while using a shield you get zero regen to all pools. SO u have to juggle your shields and swap strategies back and forth.

    Don't nerf the shield too much, it's the only tool full light armor uses have.
    Perhaps if non offensive procs (ultimate, siphoning strike, all who not concern the shield user) can happen, it will be better balanced without being too much nerfed.

    Nope, they just ignored my thread & research, as usual.

    I actually predicted there'd be problems with shields, way before PTS (or B2P announcement even):

    Turns out we didn't even have to count in the numerous dmg shield passives, before issues started popping up... sometimes I just wish they'd listen.

    I don't think that it is them ignoring us, I think that it is more along the lines of them not knowing themselves. Usually when a dev response is this delayed, they are deciding within whether or not this is a problem and how to go about fixing it.

    Siphoning attacks and it's morph should certainly proc off of shielded targets, if you're using an ability to mitigate my damage, my attacks that leech your energy should still leech from your shield. It just makes logical sense when you think about it

    Well while your at it you should be pleased to know that abilities that proc on attack do no register against shields. You can't gain ult on shielded targets either...

    You dont gain ultimate buff from hitting a shield target neither so that's fun too.
    Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

    In reality now half of skills of every classes is useless vs shields, they just don't work at all. I hope that they change this, if not, then pvp become boring as scandinavian hell...

    No problem with that assuming devs are knowledgeable about their own product. Which is not valid in here.
