Enlightment??

Lizenya
Lizenya
Can someone explain me what is going on?
When i logged in on the PTS i got the message that my char is enlighted (also the champion exp bar was slightly colored). Then i used the wayshrine to travel to another area and kill some mobs, but when i arrived there my enlightment was gone...
Is that normal?

If you hover over the bar that is under your XP bar, it will show how much enlightenment XP that you have. You probably used it all up.

No. You should not lose the enlightenment until you use it up. Sounds like a bug to me.

If you hover over the display the tooltip tells you how far into the next champion point you are, there is no indicator for Enlightenment other than the progress bar for Champion Points showing a pulsing glow effect. It should continue to pulse/glow as long as you are Enlightened. Enlightenment does go away after a period of time, is it possible it just expired?

It would really be helpful if there was more info available, maybe in the Character screen under Active Effects, or a cool down type indication so you can see how much time you have left.

Can anyone with a char from EU server use enlightment to get increased exp? It seemed to work fine when I had the template while NA chars were on the PTS. But now it always disappears before I can kill something :(

Little Update: I finally got lucky and had enlightment activating while I was in a high lvl area and then killing mobs gave me more exp. But as soon as I change zone (actually now I just went into a dungeon) the enlightment is gone again

In order to test Enlightenment sufficiently, it would be very beneficial to know how the system is supposed work in detail, indeed.

Hey there, @Lizenya. You likely used up your Enlightenment for that 24-hour period. If you believe the mechanic is not working properly for you, or if you have any other questions, let us know! You also might want to check out this guide article on our website just for a quick recap on how the system works.

I hate to be snarky, but we can't know if the mechanic is working if we don't know how the mechanic is supposed to work!

Can you please explain in more detail? Are we Enlightened for a certain period of a time? Like 20 minutes for every 24 hours realtime? Are we enlightened for a certain amount of XP? Like your next 10,000 XP will actually count as 40,000 XP for Champion Point purposes?

The current explanations, including in the linked article, of Enlightenment are too vague to understand exactly how it works. We cannot test it properly with the information (or lack thereof) currently out there.

    Thanks!

"Over time, your account will accrue Enlightenment."

    How do you accrue Enlightenment?
    How long does Enlightenment last?
Is your Enlightenment pool account wide or is it for individual characters?
Other than going to the character screen and hovering your mouse over the XP bar, how can you tell if you are "Enlightened" and how much you have left?

Hey all. Here's some specifics about how Enlightenment works:

You'll receive a pool of XP that you'll gain at an accelerated rate. That amount is 400,000 XP during every 24-hour period. You are able to gain XP at the accelerated rate for up to 3 days worth of time, equaling 1.2 million in XP. This pool of XP can be spent on any of your veteran rank characters.

There should be no way to lose Enlightenment other than earning your allotted XP during that period of time. If you're noticing a loss of Enlightenment after zoning, entering a dungeon, or randomly during your time in-game, and you have not reached that max number of XP, that is not working as designed. We've submitted the reports in this thread to our team, but be sure to continue submitting /bug reports if it continues.

Hopefully this helps to clear up some of your questions.

so each char shares the same enlightenment pool then? What exactly triggers enlightenment? is it being in a town, being logged out, or anything specific? obviously questing or doing something that gives xp will drain the pool but if I say, run around and farm herbs for potions for 2 hours, will I gain enlightenment while doing so?

    1. Pool of XP? So you're saying if I get XP on Character A, and then swap to Character B, they each deduct from one "common" pool of Enlightenment. Is that correct?
    2. If Enlightenment is a x4 bonus to XP, how is a pool of 400k = 1.2 million (400k x 3 = 1.2 million, 400k x 4 = 1.6 million)
    3. What happens if I start with that pool of 400k XP, and I roleplay for 3 straight days. Or better yet, don't even log into ESO. Do I lose the Enlightenment?
    4. Follow up to 3, if I use 100k out of the 400k (300k left in my "pool") and then 3 days passes, does the pool return to 400k? Or does it return in 1 day?

There are not enough ways to gain XP(towards CP at least)!

PVP and questing grants significantly less exp than monster grind using efficient DD build, even tanks/healers and hybrid builds have major disadvantage with new system.

What about crafters, node gatherers, guild managers even RPers, this was supposed to be 'play as you like' but seems will be 'grind till you die(of old age/boredom)' this thread/poll discusses options that should be included in 1.6 as valid CP gain options, please, check it out at least, give it some though.

Well, I take from it that you get 400k (as in the next 100k will count x4 equalling 1CP) upfront and possibly every day at midnight. If you don't earn xp, you'll have 800k on day 2 and 1.2M on day3 (1CP per day, max 3CP at 4x).

The CS is account wide, so Enlightment being it too makes sense. There have been reports however, that characters had differing pools (or at least seemed to have).

It shouldn't matter wether your online or not. If points are not spent (by just RPing) and no xp is gained, it should add up.

Thank you for this explanation :)

I've been in arena for a bit now and had enlightment running while I was in there. I got exactly 4 times the exp from the mobs for the champion points. But after reaching 400k champion exp (for a mage point) I didn't get a new point to spend, it just continued gathering exp for the next point (warrior). Then after leaving the arena the enlightment disappeared again and the champion exp bar resetted back to 140k into the first mage point. So I guess there is really some strange bug in there...

I found the explanation to be pretty straight forward.

Every day a player receives enlightenment rate for the first 400,000 exp earned. While enlightenment is under effect a player will receive 4 times the normal exp. This means earning 100,000 exp will be the same as earning 400,000 exp which will remove the enlightenment buff.

There is an enlightenment cap of 1.2 million exp. This means a player whose at capped will earn 4 times the exp up till they reach the 1.2 million mark. (IE: Earn a normal 300,000 exp).

During one of the last lives ZoS has stated that they are working on changing the exp earned on some of the normal task of VR14's. Examples ZoS used is Dailies and Dungeons will likely get a nice exp increase in a future patch.

Enlightenment is a fine idea, but if the way it is set up is encouraging the most active players to not play the game for 3 days so they can have one good extended period of CP gain.... well that's not good at all.

Not sure you understand. Players earn a 400k pool every day regardless if they are playing or not. Saving 1.2 million from 3 days and spending them all at once is no difference then spending each 400k each day as they are earned.

Enlightenment actually encourages people to log in at least once every 3 days. Be better to log in daily to spend them so there is no risk of loosing some.

Casuals are actually encouraged to use at least some of there enlightenment bonus on a daily basis to make sure they dont go over cap. Use enough enlightenment then on the weekend clear out there stockpile.

To quote Ricky Riccardo, "You gots a lot of 'splainin to do"

    1. The "pool" only refers to the amount of enlightened XP you are entitled to get.
So having 400k XP in this pool means your next 100k XP are worth 400k against your Champion Points.

    2. 400k in pool = 400k enlightened XP with the next 100k usual XP.
1.2 million is the upper limit of the pool, which is reached after 3 days not gaining XP.

    3. You will have 1.2 million XP in your enlightenment pool.

    4. day 0 pool = 300k
    day 1 pool = 700k
    day 2 pool = 1.1M
    day 3 pool = 1.2M
    day 4 pool = 1.2M

    Some examples:
    a) You gain 100k XP every day.
Since your first 100k XP every day are worth 400k XP against CP, you will get 1 CP every day.

    b) You gain 300k XP every day.
Again the first 100k XP each day grant you 400k XP for the CP.
The additional 200k XP will apply 1:1.
So you will get 1 CP every day as well as 1 additional CP every other day.

    c) You gain 900k XP every day.
    100k XP are 400k enlightened XP = 1 CP.
    The other 800k XP = 2 CP.
This way you'll get 3 CP every day.

    d) You gain 200k XP every other day.
Since your pool contains 400k Xp from the first and 400k XP from the second day,
you will get 800k enlightened XP which is 2 CP.

    e) You gain 300k XP every 3ed day.
    Same as in d).
So you get 3CP on the 3ed day.

    f) You gain 300k XP today and 50k XP tomorrow.
The first 100k XP are worth 400k against your CP, granting you 1 CP.
The additional 200k XP are applied 1:1 leaving your current progress at 200k of 400k.
The 50k of tomorrow are 200k enlightened XP, filling up your progressbar and granting 1 CP.
In the end you have earned 2 CP in those two day and still have 200k in your enlightenment pool.

That's very sad, it means those of us who enjoy leveling several characters will have to choose which ones to gimp.

This should be like it is in every other game I play with a similar feature, per-character.

Like most other MMOs, they penalise those who can't play 24/7, one game I play (FFXI) allows you to stack up to a week's worth of 'dailies' which is a huge help for those people with a real-life.

3 days is a nod in the right direction, but then the limitation of it being account-wide nullifies that.

I think 3 days is a better business plan as it makes it better to log in during the week. Casuals should have no issue as long as they can log in a little during the week and then spend there stored exp on the weekends.

    Example:
Casual logs in for 30-45 minutes a night and earns 50k exp during the weekdays. Lets assume the player uses all his enlightenment bonus on Sunday. This means on Monday-Friday he will save 50k. After 5 days he will have saved 250k exp which is 1 million exp with bonus. On Saturday and Sunday with increased playtime he gets done to 0 exp saved. Starts new cycle on Monday.

Normally game companies like everyone to log in on a pretty regular basis. They also needed to make it account bound or could you imagine the power gap of champion points. I nearly have 8 vet characters. That would mean I would earn 8 times the champion points then someone with only 1 vet character as I would have 8 characters with enlightenment. The account bound enlighten bonus is actually a good thing for casuals.

    Uh, no.

Gaining actual XP (for the purpose of LEVELING) is not affected one bit by Enlightenment bonus. If you gain 100k XP, you gain 100k XP. Period.

Its just that your Champion Point XP (<-- coined term) is what gets the bonus for a new CP.

I think my account currently has an infinite Enlightenment pool on the PTS. I've gained more than 4 Champion points within 24 hours, and I had the Enlightenment bonus for the full duraton and still have it now , even after relogging and restarting the client :O If I've understood the system correctly that shouldn't be possible. I've submitted a bug-report ingame (was hard to find a category; I think i've selected Characters > Skill Lines/Skills/Progression).

Also, if anyone is interested in how much Exp various solo grinding activities with a VR 14 character can offer, right now, in the current patch (1.6.1), I've gathered the following values:
All Champion Point Exp values for a VR 14 character with
    Enlightenment:

    Spellscar group type 1 4620	(4x1155)
    Spellscar group type 2 4032	(4x1008)
    Spellscar group type 3 2888	(4x722)

An average of killing 104 monster groups at Spellscar is

It would be great if you could see on your Character sheet how much Enlightenment you have remaining. (There are a lot of things that could be added to that Active Effects section.)

    Nice list, thanks for that.

However, there is one big problem with Spellscare grinding:
Everyone knows about the place, it will be way overcrowded once 1.6 goes live.
So you get only 1/3 of the XP per mob. If you get the mob at all...

The situation in Cyrodiil won't be much different in it's result, though it will have other reasons.
There is only few gank-PvP around the quest locations right now, but that may change.
Yet my last 1on1 kill was worth 1,3xx XP which is 5,2xx with enlightenment so this might be worth it.
