67 Blue/Gray Screen Crashes on PS5

Unacceptable.

Since June 9th, my system has crashed 67 times specifically while playing Elder Scrolls Online. I know because you can see the recorded date and time of every single error on the system history. Often the game just crashes while just sitting there idle.

How many times has the game crashed for other software in that time period? 2. TWICE. One time each for two separate games.

Reporting it or making an incident reports seems like an exercise in futility. I mean am I to make a ticket for EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE CRASHES? Am I supposed to write a description of the same thing each time and send it in to Sony? It’s not as if I can simply cut and paste the same thing over and over. That’s just as time consuming on a system that doesn’t come with a keyboard.

This is as bad as Dragonhold and rightly so I’m concerned about what damage it can be doing to my expensive and extremely hard to replace new system. Dragonhold’s crashes forced me to replace my internal HDD as it was literally destroyed and unable to load other games after constant crashes. An internal HDD on a PS4 Pro less than 6 months old.

@ZOS_Kevin can we get an official and detailed response as to what is going on, what is being done to address the clearly severe issues, and when a remedy can be expected?

Hi @trackdemon5512. Could you let us know what system you're using? Also, has there been a official ticket filed with us? If so, having the ticket number would be helpful.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

@ZOS_Kevin I’m using a Playstation 5 Digital Version. This is the Playstation 5 version of the game but I also occasionally use the Playstation 4 version and experience the same crashes.

@AuraStorm43 this is in any mode. Traveling to new zones can result in a full Gray Screen crash. Standing around can result in a Gray Screen crash. Leaving the game idle can result in a Gray Screen crash. Simply returning to the game after it has signed itself out often results in a crash.

CE-108255-1. Today, July 14, 2021 this error has been recorded 4 times alone and the day is about halfway through.

As for submitting a ticket the issue arises on how to report a severe game crash that has now happened 67 times in the span of a single month. It becomes a literal waste of time to file a complaint ticket when each is given the same response and is clearly reported over and over again by players. Especially when tickets I’ve filed in regards to other matters have gone unanswered again and again with no resolution and them being closed after a time period where even trying to establish a back and forth becomes too frustrating.

This is why I’m posting here. I’m sure I’m not alone in regards to the constant excessive crashes and the forums gets better technical responses than submitted ticket reports as from experienced history.

On PS5 I had 18 or so in my history (I play in performance mode, not fidelity), that doesn't include ones where the crash is in game where the ouroboros stops spinning and you have to kill the game yourself.

I've just deleted and redownloaded the game to see if that improves the situation. Its always the same error code mentioned above - CE-108255-1, which goes to problem with application or console. As its only this game I get the issue with, I assume it isn't my console

Performance mode runs pretty good tho

I've been running in Performance mode most of the time and have had nothing but crashing. I think it's a product level issue deeper than what graphics mode is active. I think I submitted north of 12 crashes in a day.

I dunno for me fidelty mode was crash city but performance modes been pretty smooth, didn’t have many even during midyear

As usual it seems there’s a fundamentally broken issue deep inside ESO’s code and i have doubts it’ll be fixed

    I’m now at 69 system crashes…

    Did you try this?
    1. Delete the game;
    2. Erase everything related to the game (save files mostly);
    3. Rebuild console's database (there's tons of youtube guides and it's pretty easy);
    4. Reinstall the game and make sure it's on the console's SSD, not in external HDDs.

You actually can’t install ESO anywhere but the PS5’s SSD, least in the case of the PS5 version

Deleting the game and rebuilding the console’s database isn’t the solution.

I’m FAR from the only one experiencing this. Those within my guilds with a PS5 are experiencing the same crashes and a fair number of them have sworn off playing until it’s fixed. They haven’t quit but rather find it to be a waste of time to play until the crashes are addressed. They have crash numbers comparable or greater than my own. A number of them have actually deleted the game and followed your steps and it does nothing.

    @ZOS_Kevin

Known Circumstances Preceding System Crashes (CE-108255-1):

    1) Traveling between Player Owned Homes
    2) Traveling to other Players in other Zones/Homes
    3) Simply Switching Instances
    4) Switching Between Characters on an Account
    5) Returning to the Game after the PS5 has gone into Rest Mode
    6) Attempting to Log On a Character after Sign Out due to Inactivity
    7) City of Ash 2 notable for being an almost Guaranteed Crash
    8) Attempting to enter some BGs and dungeons
    9) Attempting to complete the Thieves Guild main quests

I’ve also contacted members in several large guilds who own PS5 to count their crashes. I’m getting total numbers from multiple people in the range of 22 to 80 system crashes within the last month, the average total of which presenting a left skewing distribution curve. These members state that while some have submitted tickets the number of crashes are so great that filing a report for each crash is repetitive and a waste of their time.

I had a count earlier. I was on 52 but had a couple today's session, trying to travel to one of my houses twice in a row. Here are my experiences.

    Things that make me crash:

Travelling to or from a house (to inside, outside or even previewing).
Entering or exiting delves/public dungeons - seems to be mostly exiting.
Travelling to a wayshrine from a random location.
    Entering or exiting quest areas.
Logged out with the game left running - possibly when it's left on character select, I don't remember having any if I've backed out right to the splash screen.

Things that are ok for me:

Logging in and out of characters, for example doing writs.
Travelling in and out of dungeons with group finder.
Travelling between wayshrines - maybe? I haven't done this much recently so might have just got lucky so far.
Running around overland, collecting mats, doing dolmens, World bosses etc.

I feel like it's relevant that in all the instances I crash I have a companion summoned at one end or the other. The only exceptions have been travelling from a house I own to preview another. Even then it would have been active if I'd travelled to another area.
When I do dungeons I unsummon them beforehand to avoid confusion and my alts don't have them summoned as normal so not there when I log in for writs.

    Hope this helps!

I can confirm these same crashed for my wife (disc ps5) and myself (digital ps5).

We did a skyshard run in deshaan, and crashed when exiting almost every delve in the zone.

I have been trying to do harborage missions, but this is almost impossible on PS5 currently, as you keep crashing over and over when exiting the harborage, which you have to do a ton of times for the questline.

The game also still crashes when exiting the CP screen.

    Side note:
Also, on PS5, the map is almost unusable due to the game running in 4k and the map being tiny.
Trying to pin a marker on the map on a spot you want to run to is made pretty much impossible because of this, because you can't zoom in far enough, and when you move to where you want to click, the cursor automatically moves to the closest object on the map.

    Add me to the count.

I just bought the game with all chapters, digital version for PS5.... boy was I excited to start playing on my PS5... but I cannot even get past the load screen with my main character.... so I can't even play the game!!!! And I was bout to become an ESO+ member too!!!

Originally it crashed as I was playing, I was just happily strolling along the road in Reaper's March. Ever since then, I can't even get past the load screen after character selection.

I had a 2nd character I'd never really done anything with, started playing her instead. But after a while, same thing. Game crashed, and ever since, cannot even load her character and start playing.

This has been happening for days, tried restarting, but also it just doesn't load from having been turned off.

Pretty miffed to be honest. 😠

I’m glad this issue is finally being looked into .. this is the third thread I’ve now commented on since the crashes began, which, for me, started on the 12th June

    I’m at around 90 crashes

Crashing is prolific in PvE ... exiting delves & housing, wayshrine travel, porting to a wayshrine/house .. literally, crashes are being initiated upon, or just after, changing location

It always leaves me in my original location but gets far enough through for the timer to start and make it expensive trying again!

Oh man I crash all the time too. Will have to check when I go home. A lot of mine happens when changing location especially going thru a door in a quest instance, guaranteed crash every time.

Stay safe everyone and ZOS please fix the green tree micromanaging :)

I get that too, it's really annoying when you have to repeat the quest stage because of it. Had to kill the same quest boss 4 or 5 times before because I crashed every time trying to leave the room!

    I wasn’t far out when I said around 90 crashes .. it was 88

.. but, 2 more crashes already this morning, & then a further 5 crashes in the last 15mins !!

I was playing in Fidelity mode, & had the 2 crashes some time apart .. I swapped to Performance mode & ESO melted

95 crashes total .. so far.

Fidelity, Performance .. doesn’t matter which mode, ESO crashes

Originally it crashed as I was playing, I was just happily strolling along the road in Reaper's March. Ever since then, I can't even get past the load screen after character selection.

Same here. My main character is doing Cadwells Almanac and I'm going thru the Reapers March area. I left the main city, turned right to go towards the next mission, walked for a while and crashed. Now every time I try to log on to that character, the game crashes.

After reading a suggestion here, I restarted the console and tried to log in with the character and it crashed again. I guess I'm not going to play my main character anymore until the game gets fixed. 😕

Unfortunately, I paid for 3 months of ESO+ a few weeks ago so they already got my money. If I could get a refund, I would.

The same happened to me a few weeks back, Reapers March as well ... log onto another character, send a report in, use ‘character issue’, include the character’s name & briefly explain the issue ... someone will move your character (maybe to your alliance capital). ;)
