Insert interesting title here: Chat Window

OK so, as a streamer in learning one of the things that is a real eye sore during a stream is the chat window. Due to the fact that it's so toxic, seeing someone shame and flame, and the unnecessary obscenities. Isn't there someway we can just shut off the window entirely and like make it where if someone wanted to speak to us directly, we would get this blinking icon on our screen like we do mail? Atleast be able to minimize it to not see at all.

Isn’t there a little arrow to hide it?

You can minimize the chat window by clicking on the arrow on the bottom left corner of the screen.

Can it pop back open when something happens in the window?

Streamers might also want to turn off the Zone channels in the settings.

Low key stream plug at its finest...ESO chat is very tame compared to other games(play GTA online if you want vulgar)

If you click the cog icon on the top right you can filter some of the chat types, so you don't see zone/public/etc. You could set it so that you only see private chat, guild chat and such. You can also have different "tabs" with different chats being filtered, so that when you're done streaming you can see zone again.

But that's for PC, dunno if you're on console or anything, or if it's different there at all.

I have to say this. you are a troll.

    Definition of Troll:
is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting quarrels or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion,[3] often for the troll's amusement.

Also by doing this I make myself look like a troll.

So I guess it takes one to know one.

    hahaha

I'm going to be honest with you, I would not stream ESO. Ever. The Twitch community behind it is so horrific that you'll never avoid that toxicity of it. Most of the larger streamers have done nothing to curb the bad behaviour that has spawned in there channels over the years that anyone trying to get into streaming the game instantly regrets doing so. Some of the people I play with used to stream ESO and quit doing so because of how bad things are. They don't want to deal with the crap anymore.

As others said you can minimize it. It will also flash/glow blue when a whisper has come in.

Most people are going to cover up chat with either their webcam or some bit of stream overlay - gotta hide the incoming argonian ERP messages.

There are addons that auto-slide the window closed on: ReloadUI, zone change, etc.

However I highly recommend you make a new chat window titled something like Sanity. Untick ANYTHING you might find offensive: zone chat, local chat, yells, etc. I recommend having Whispers and Party enabled. Change your active window to this new window. Also the addons I mentioned can auto-switch to a chat window of your choosing.

I've watched a few streams and did not come away with this feeling. However I generally do not read much or participate in the chat for the most part.

I do not find such behavior is game related, the activity you mention can be found across all game platforms, to smaller or larger extents.

Yes, smart to have one without zone, also one without guilds is nice in some groups if guild chat is busy.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Try such behavior is not game related, and it can be found on every game chat. Nonetheless I think my problem was already solved. I didn't notice the tab on the bottom to close it. it's all good.
