Still in progress, but hit the cap for the third time and thought I should post a few pics before I embark on my fourth rework. I'm considering moving the crafting stations to another property and transferring the structure to another account, but I would have to go through the process of buying all those pillars one by one off the crown store.... multi-buy wru?

I realize the pictures are a bit fractured in sequence but Imgur and I have an ongoing argument over image size and I am ultimately posting what Imgur would accept and which I didn't have to over-crop. In any case, you really have to tour it yourself to have fun with it, everyone is welcome. This project is on PC NA.

In each place where you think 'I would have gone a different way,' yes, me also. The housing cap... <sigh>. The base platform should be twice as wide to comport with how historians believe the great library would have looked, the library would be completely enclosed, there would be a museum in the wide open section, the rough edges of the ballroom pieces would be dressed, etc. The last thing I was doing before I hit the cap again was to begin replacing the Redguard fence sections of the second terrace with Alinor wall pieces, and as you can see by the portion I had reworked, it looks much better without the darker redguard stone.

Anyway, I could go on about all the compromises the cap forces but I still have to recognize that ZoS made great strides with Summerset. At some point I will post the evolution of this structure - like going from a stick figure to a charcoal sketch. One day we'll hit full color photo!

This would not have been possible without Essential Housing Tools by @R_K - can't say enough about how wonderful this tool is. You cannot get the symmetry over long runs like you'll see in the pictures unless you use the addon. Further, the time it took me to build the entire structure is about the same as it took me to build one level of the previous structure. The base platform simply would not be possible due to it's great length. I show my avatar with the banker and merchant to give you an idea of how immense the structure really is. If you have played around with the Dibella statue, you'll understand immediately.

holy mother of libraries, that is dang impressive. I am floored by the attention to detail.
Are you planning to use some of the wooden bookcases they added on the PTS? I love white marble as much as the next altmer, but a bit more material variety might give some of the upper floors some additional character.

@Wreuntzylla Wow. Wreuntzylla -- you continue to outdo yourself. First, the sheer scale of this library illustrates how massive this undertaking has been and continues to be -- and, yet, you deliver with each iteration. Impeccable. I had to get my partner to come see these photos the moment I found your posting. Needless to say, we're both blown away.

The attention to detail is, among other things, on point. If they ever do decide to lift the item limits, I will be the first at your house, waiting to see what you come up with and how you execute on it.

Also, please don't take down this iteration just yet, if you could possibly wait? I really want to get there today to see it for myself in person!

Some super good news to counter the struggles you, and all of us, have with the item limits: ZOS notified us that they are updating the Housing API with some incredibly useful functions. More features related to animation, interactivity and even deeper Undo/Redo functionality are just a few of the things that I'll be adding / extending in Essential Housing Tools after this upcoming update. So, that awesome gate that you have, for example, will be able to be lifted automatically with the flip of a switch once I incorporate these upcoming API functions.

Oh, and finally -- thank you for the shout out. I could not be happier that you have found the tool useful! <3

@Wreuntzylla Ok, so a quick follow up question: How on Nirn did you accomplish this? I have to know... I suspect that this is the precision layout of a circle of rugs to create this border ring; but, for the life of me, I cannot find the seams. Share your wisdom with us, please... ;)

I appreciate the kind words but, like ZoS, I am just ripping off history.

Ironically, after I took these images, I found a somewhat similar structure in the Olympus series on Amazon Video. Made me feel like my interpretation based on the written descriptions wasn't too far off.

The things I am actually proud of are small details that most people won't notice. @R_K noticed one, but not really surprising given the depth of housing knowledge it must take to create tools like EHT.

@Earrindo Ha! There is a thread in these forums where I ask after the large wooden shelves and express my joy when someone replies it's on the PTS as a voucher-purchased recipe.

Aside from the 'too much stone' sentiment, you wouldn't believe the glare off all that white. Makes daytime viewing painful.

Not useful. Essential.... Like the name says!

Seriously, the following was captured before I accidentally sent everything into oblivion (drag function mishap) and restarted. To get to what the image shows took 2x the time it took me to build the entirety of the new structure.

    jylVntG.jpg

Each added piece makes unnoticeable errors compound. The base platform in the new structure has 50 ballroom floor pieces and would be infeasible without the addon. It took me all of about 30sec to create the platform with the rectangle feature...

In most cases, creating portions of the structure involved setting one piece, duplicating it, duplicating the pair, and so on until I can paste the larger piece 1-3 times, depending. Any wall sections that include the same type of object oriented in the same basic way (or x degrees in rotation) involved making one and then pasting over and over again, usually 3 times. Then, if you want a doorway or something, you just move individual items around.

The duplicating part is important to maintain the perfect alignment between pieces.

It took me about an hour to put together one side of the outer wall (~11 fence sections) and then a couple minutes to paste and rotate the second outer wall, and position it.

Indeed, I took the Breton round and sunk it slightly into the floor so that only the outside circle is showing, and then placed the Dibella carpet inside the circle. It's probably the only function that is not easier with your tool. Using a mouse to drop an item facilitates very small incremental changes without messing with settings.

Of course, once dropped, I used the tool to center the outer circle on the platform and then the Dibella carpet inside the outer circle. It's impossible to target the Dibella carpet once set, but since the addon only cares about the identity of the particular item, I could move it around with the interface even though it was no longer targetable. Without the tool, it would probably take 10 retrieves and retries to center round upon round.

Oddly, the whole thing goes a bit wonky from great height (magic carpet birds-eye view). Visitors aren't going to be up there, though.

Items in relief can result in some amazing combinations.

Not a fan of the huge Seal of Molag Ba'al?

No worries! Rip out the Daedric lettering!

    8dX4ls0.jpg

Also, you might have noticed something was different with the Transliminal Rupture. I used it to create a neato shifting, short-range, multi-spotlight effect on Dibella which sort of slowly strobes. Which you can't see in the picture. I didn't want that bright rip above her. I ended up experimenting until I was able to get that pulsing dark cloud effect by adding a couple of Mists of the Hag Fen with the rupture inlaid.

    ----

A few early images I took on a low rez laptop. I had to crop all the images I previously posted so that Imgur liked the size. That made the images lose overall perspective. (My problems with imgur are rooted in my not having a tool to save images as smaller data sizes on my gaming computer.)

@Wreuntzylla A quick side note on this: Essential gives you the ability to "tab target" from one item to any nearby items. If you set up a keybind for Controls > Addons > Essential Housing Tools > Tab Target, you can use it to do just that.

Just enter House Editor mode, target an item and hit the key you assigned for Tab Target. Your cursor will pick up the targeted item. Then, you can hit the Tab Target key until the cursor is holding the correct item (such as the Dibella Carpet). You can then choose to either move it manually, or you can Group select the item to manipulate it with all of the functions the add-on provides.

Just wanted to throw that out there -- it was a feature I designed for grabbing impossible-to-target items, like books in a bookshelf, etc.

This is undouboutedly one of the most wonderful creations I have seen so far in game. I can't begin to fathom how you planned and build all this, it must have taken so much effort! It looks absolutely briliant, like something you could encounter in the game itself, and I'm really amazed you could do all this, given the slot limit. Very inspired work, please keep it up!

@Jaimeh I appreciate the kind words but...

    Effort

I spent less work on this iteration than anything previous. I usually have critical comments on just about everything techy, but.... Essential Housing Tools. I literally cannot go back to the manual method now without being frustrated, and if @R_K were to stop supporting it, I'd seek a license... Don't say anything, though, it harms negotiations if the other party knows the value you place on the object of the contract.

    Slot Limit

Every single item that came with the island was stripped away (rocks, trees, bushes, flowers, Argonian bartender) and I recently removed some 60 attunement stations, and mundus stones, so that I could give it a finished look. I am still confounded as to why ZoS didn't provide finished edges to the ballroom pieces (while still recognizing it was a huge leap forward by ZoS). I might have been able to add the museum that should be sitting in the front portion of the platform! Or at least keep my attunement stations.

    Planning

Without reiterating how little I invented, here are some pictures. Maybe you will see some similarities to existing structures.
When I say both ZoS and I ripped-off history, it's not hyperbole....

Oh, and in my defense, I did not see the representation of Athena's statue in the Parthenon until just now. At least, not recently. Compare the base of the statue to that of Dibella.

@Wreuntzylla Well maybe the magnitude of one's own project lessens with time and familiarization, but when somebody else sees it for the first time, it's really impressive! Especially because with large structures I find that it's not easy to keep a good perspective on progress, since you can't see the whole thing at once from the top, and the distance and angles of the camera also make it difficult. As for inspiration, I used images found online for some my own projects as well, but the challenge is to create what's in the image with the items available in game, so not always an easy feat, and in the case of the library, I'd say you hit it out of the park!

@Jaimeh Two things... One, totally agree -- this project is fully awesome-sauce. The scale is over the top and you really feel transported to Ancient Greece when you see the structure in person. There are few things of that scale that exist in this game. Two, you can always use my Magic Carpet add-on to see your project from a bird's eye view.

Out of the blue, a guildy in my housing guild offered to make a video, and she uses magic carpet for essentially the first time (give or take a day) while filming it. The video is utterly fantastic, it turned out to look like a professional production. Who knows, maybe it is, I'm not sure if she makes videos for a living! Anyway, if I gain her permission, I will link it here. You will get an immediate feel for how useful magic carpet is.
