Orsinium not so hyped thread

I wanted to post this in the "Orsinium hype thread!" but didn't want anyone freaking out because I am not so hyped about Orsinium coming out.

There are a few reasons

1. My Nightblade.. omg will it get nerfed??
2. Right before IC came out, everyone was hyping it up, and then came back and talked about how bad it was.

I don't think I will purchase it just yet. If the changes to my character are to overwhelming I might not have the gut to play this game much longer. I'm not the type of character on here that likes changes. Since IC came out my Vet character has only went up one level because I don't even like playing it any longer. It is funny how they reduced the time it takes to level a vet but made it much harder for me to level.

So ya.. I will be sitting on the sidelines. I have a funny feeling people will rush in and get the DLC, and then 3 weeks from now they will be here talking how bad it was.

They do a lot of class balancing every patch, this one will be no different. It drives me nuts too and why I have one of every class/build. Do you just feel squishy? is it the ttk? or just no longer liking the NB? The best bet is to go on PTS and get an idea of what they'll do to your character.

Or If you're not that invested in your character (like you're only v1 for example) maybe start a second?

Change is good. Dont stick to the old ways too much. Change keeps the game fresh and you'll have something to do...relearn your class - maybe find some extra joy - who knows. I suggest digging into the changes...whatever they might be. Maybe you'll find something you'll like.

Was hyped, saw the slew of idiotic changes and the dumb implementation of the CP cap and "catch-up" (lol) mechanisms, and no true x-faction grouping (please use our LFG tool it works now), immediately lost all hype.

Really? Who doesn't get upset about nerfs?

I am not one of those Techie Energy Drinking Mob Killers that enjoys over clocking their characters. I hate nerfs!

The last stamina nerf really hurt me. I used to use a vampire skill called, "Drain Essence" to drain the life out of my enemy, which would also restore my health and Stamina. This kept me alive in Non-Pvp zones, especially when it was a 1vX fight.

So they nerfed Stamina regen, and I now use cloak to survive. Whats on the chopping block next? The Magica Regen on Cloaking [ grabs the trash can and pukes in it ]. I am not ok with that.

I've played it on PTS, it's actually pretty good, one of the best looking zones this game has ever produced. If you like solo challenges the Maelstrom arena is challenging. Imo magicka NB is going to be one of the strongest classes in MA (even though it is ranked by class, what I am saying is they will have the easiest time in MA). If you are more the type that prefers a good carry, then there is still lots of solo dungeons, quests and a treasure hunt to do, so it's not just MA.

My biggest concern(s) for Orsinium is
    • Too much single player focus. In a time where players are leaving largely due to the game not playing and feeling like an MMO ZOS decides to go further down the rabbit hole?
    • Not enough content to justify a $30.00 price tag. With a single player focus there just isn't enough repeatable content for the cost. I can spend a little bit more for an up and coming expansion in another MMO and would receive 300 times the content for the money.
    • No added advancement or tools for guilds to function outside the major reason anyone joins guilds... to sell in their stores.
    • Champion Point System changes not going in a good direction. Quick fix option will make things worse for the player base.

I really hope ZOS takes a serious look at their state of the game for the next DLC. More than likely this one was finished or close to being done after the feedback from IC.

For what ZOS did with Imperial City, I think they created a fine DLC, it does what they said it was going to do (most recently), and I think it meets their design goals. I find it hard to disagree with that. From a game development perspective, I cannot argue that they created something challenging and interesting and something that could be fun to play. But not in ESO Cyrodiil. ZOS missed the mark completely with Imperial City simply because it does not fit into Cyrodiil at all. If you think of IC as a place completely apart from Cyrodiil, I think it could be a home run, but it should not have been located on the island in the center of Cyrodiil. Great idea, wrong location.

The main problem I have with Orsinium is the lack of challenge. A level 4 character, still in Wailing Prison garb and that cannot even fill the action bar, is effective in the Orsinium DLC. To maintain the illusion that I, as a player, actually matter, I will have to restrict my activities in Wrothgar to my top level characters. Otherwise, it just seems like I am along for the ride and all I have to do is press buttons.

I do hope that ZOS seriously considers creating DLC content that is actually gated beyond the purchase of the DLC. By this, I mean that players who purchase it before they reach that gate cannot play until they qualify. I know some players have a "I bought it but cannot play it" mentality, but the curse of doing it that way is a game that never presents a challenge and never has a goal that needs to be attained. I do not think it is a sin against nature to have DLC gated by commonly attainable challenges within the game. I would have liked to see Orsinium as a Level 50 DLC rather than as a Battle Leveled DLC open to everyone. There is a point in the main quest where it makes sense that the King of the Orcs would want the character to come visit and help rebuild Orsinium, and that is what should have happened for this DLC.

I do not think that Orsinium will have the same problems that Imperial City had. Again, this is what they said it was going to be and I will guess it meets their design goals. The main difference with Imperial City is that it fits into the game better. It will be used by players much the same way as expected, but the lack of challenge will make it boring as time goes on. I want to elaborate: As long as players do not expect expansive group play, Trials, and instanced group dungeons.

ESO is a mix of grouped and non-grouped, solo and multiplayer, that deviates from a lot of MMO games. Orsinium is the poster child for this, and it will resonate with a very large block of players. Most of the complaints will come from players where it does not resonate.

People aren't so hyped this time, because people realize, that the base game needs lots of improvements and changes instead of another payed DLC right now.

Imperial City had so much potential and only 1 month later, they already announce the next DLC. The first reaction of me and my boyfriend when they suddenly announced Orsinium PTS, was
    ' I'm overuses ''
Just too much in a short time, without the previous things being fixed/improved/changed however.
There is excitment, there definately is. It's not that I'm not happy about new content. But I myself was not yet ready for this.

Unless FO4 is the usual initial Beth bugfest, I won't be around to play the new dlc. Add to that, I can only purchase it via the crown store and because of the hassle I had to go through when i didn't receive my ESO+ crowns (xbox), I will never be buying crowns again. If they decide to put it on the storefront on LIVE, then I would probably get it eventually, but only a mug would buy crowns after going through what i went through to get my ESO+ membership fee refunded.

Regardless of what anyone (or more to the point, the fanboys) tells you, your top priority when deciding on which console to opt for should be down to which one your friends are gaming on, then which exclusive games you'd prefer. I initially bought the PS4, all my gaming friends remained on xbox and i regretted my decision. Thankfully i managed to trade my PS4 in for an xbone. Not regretted it.

Just curious, have you actually tried Orsinium as a level 4, with no CP or starter gear, and also purposefully forgotten all your personal knowledge and skill derived from playing the game for over a year? From what I can tell, the World Bosses and Maelstrom Arena are quite challenging, even for Vet characters. It seems like the mob density in normal questing zones is higher, and there are more 3-pack mobs than a usual zone.

That said, I would have preferred difficulty scaling of some kind to provide consistency for all player types; there just seems to be no way to provide a Dark Souls-esque experience for the elite few, as well as a balanced, less-masochistic experience for the casual. It is supposed to be a solo-friendly zone, so anyone, even in a group of two, is probably going to have an easier time, just like in the rest of the PVE zones.

Not sure Dark Souls is the best example when talking about "elite gamers". I'm not the best gamer around by any stretch of the imagination, however, once you realise you need to take a defensive approach rather than an offensive approach (like almost every game out there allows you to) from the beginning, the game suddenly becomes easier.

I can only assume people find Dark Souls difficult because they refuse to change their gaming habits of a lifetime. Always want to face roll from the off. Want to rush a group of enemies to save a few seconds etc etc etc. Hell, after awhile you can revert back to face rolling enemies. Then there's DS2. Well, I'm not even sure if I've seen many people stating that's a challenge.

I have a base level account where my highest level characters are low level on both NA and EU, which means single digit. I think my max is 6 right now. They level up pretty fast during testing. I actually went into the zone initially without even spending any attribute or skill points, but it is not possible to rule Wrothgar using only a Destruction Staff. Aside from name, gender, and level, my NA and EU characters on this account are, for all other intents and purposes, identical. This is intentional so that it does not matter whether NA or EU is copied to PTS.

To avoid ruining the zone for me when it comes out, I do not do anything in the DLC except that which lies between the plundered caravan and the city. I try to pick times when that area is not overrun with players with the same objective so that I can take on NPCs solo. No world bosses or Arena. I expect that quality of the skills and equipment available to the character will matter more than the level in those areas. This is to be expected since everyone is equal, apart from what they bring with them.

I do not leave player skills and knowledge behind, obviously.
