Public Dungeons do not count as "foes" for the new tome challenge? Why?

Anniversary Jubilee: Earn Gift Boxes is greyed out for me.

I've only done 2 of 99 daily logins and there's only 92 days left.

Didn't save reroll (if reroll can be done for seasonal challenges).

So my only choice is to compete with everyone else spending hours running overland in the three zones trying to kill everything because no delves, public dungeons & arenas don't count <insert angry face here>

It isn't fun & I don't get why I've been doing daily crafting writs on 14 characters and earning gift boxes plus some ToT and zone dailies which have given me Gift Boxes but that doesn't count for the challenge?

Rerolls don’t work on seasonal challenges. They are for weekly challenges only. Feedback was given on PTS that they should be named transparently. You’re not the only person to wonder (even on the forums today alone).

The 99 days is there to ensure it covers a whole season. It is not meant to be an accurate reflection of how many can be gotten this specific season. All of us will run out of season before we get to 99. They have this listed as a “known issue” and will consider feedback on it.

Did you complete the Jubilee seasonal challenge? It’s pretty easy to get 50 boxes fast, and you can only earn that challenge reward the once. Your daily writs on 14 characters would have had it completed on day 1. Once you hit 50 boxes for the event and get your TP for that challenge, it’s over.

Thanks for your reply - doublechecked and the Jubilee Challenged is actually claimed so yeah I completed it.

Wrothgar's public dungeons do not count as "foes" in the new (at least it's new in my game) Tome challenge?

I spent 30 min killing "foes" in one of the Wrothgar public dungeons and got ZERO in the tome "1,000 foes" challenge. WHY?

    q7lp9sij9br3.jpg

I seem to remember, there was an endeavor for killing foes in West Weald when it came out and someone said that killing enemies in the public dungeons didn't count because the public dungeons aren't considered part of the zone, according the the game code. I could be misremembering.

Yes, I remember that one, there was this house where a lot of foes spawned quickly and people gathered there and farmed them for a good while that week.

Ok! I saw your screenshot too, which helped.

Some challenges can be repeated, and they’ll say how many times. It ranges depending on the challenge.

Doesn’t this mean you’ve finished that challenge already? And I think Gina made a statement somewhere about ZOS knowing that no one can get all the way to 99 sign ins this season and explained why it read that way.

Yeah it does mean that, as I've since noted above. So if 99 sign ins is reading the wrong way does that mean it can be done despite what it says or that that challenge is completely invalid?

Even though I was not planning to do this challenge, I decided to see what options are out there for doing it.

First, I tried to go with a group in Kvatch arena, but found it very slow and boring since we had to wait for the arena to reset. So, I left pretty quickly.

Next, I went to Wrothgar, looked at a couple of locations and settled on Frostbreak Fortress. I think this is the way to do it. Bunch of mobs that respawn very fast. Swarming harpies are especially nice since they spawn in, well, swarms and die from loud sneezing (bring AoE).

I completed it with no issues and with other players running around, though I do not think I will do it again.

Seriously, Delves, Group Dungeons, Dungeons, Trials anything you enter from the zone should count. Ludicrous they don’t.

1k overland beasts even in 90 days is WAY too many if it's limited to just overland and public dungeons and delves don't count.

But this is not to many for 90 days...this is SEASONAL task. SEASONAL. Not daily, not weekly, SEASONAL.
People just love to whine about everything.

Every day you log in and click on the daily challenge and collect 15 Tome Points you technically “complete” it for that day, and the counter advances 2/99, 3/99, 4/99, etc). Now, the maximum number of times you can complete it equals the maximum number of days in the season, and in this case, you will not be able to complete it 99 times, but future seasons that have 99 days or more you will be able to.

There also appear to be two bugs involved with this, one where you could not complete it on the first day, and two, where you cannot complete it if you are logged into the game at the daily crossover time that would be considered the new day starting.

Most likely cause once you go into those sub zones you're no longer in the zone listed.

I will say though I have one to kill the boss in Depths of Malatar, Blessed Cruicble or White Gold Tower. Have to do it three times to get credit

I did Crucible and WGT twice and only have 2/3. So either it just bugged on me, or even though it says or you have to do it each one.

I had this challenge, twice. We ran Depths of Malatar, killed the Symphony of Blades boss and did not get credit for it, on either challenge. Went to WGT after that and got hit by the bug where there's a door that that won't open.

Love this game, but I may be done caring about rewards and currencies at this point.

Neither the delves, the trial, the arena and the dungeons in those zones count towards the number of kills, which is not understandable.
Is this a bug or an intented bottle neck?

Endeavors always felt like an attempt to keep players engaged in an era when content releases were--and were going to continue to be--inadequate in both quantity and quality. Tomes, and this one in particular, just feels like doubling down on that.

The problem is with the seasonal (not weekly) challenge for killing 1000 foes in the 3 specific zones.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom Is the 1000 kills a weekly challenge? The way it is presented, it looks like it will be there for the duration of the Season.

There's a worldboss in Wrothgar (can't remember which) that continuously spawns a bajillion adds until its dead. That should help.

If you do him solo, that would be really helpful. But since everyone is forced into three specific zones, the WB is dead after a few seconds so it still takes ages to finish.

Just tried this boss and there are 100 people there. Definitely not a slow burn, it dies almost as soon as it appears lol.

You don't have to. Day before yesterday I was going through the zones looking for a good grind spot and found one. Relatively quiet of other players and quick spawn time. Got to almost 400 kills until it was time to go to bed. (North-West coast of Gold Coast, by the way. Far from a wayshrine so not that many other players. Enemies spawn quickly and even has mudcrab nests where you get 8 kills per nest.)

But yesterday I found out every creature counts and changed plans and was just running around in Wrothgar, lightning staff equipped and holding my left mouse button down. Got the remaining 600 slightly faster than legitimate enemy farming. Only a bit faster, because the Gold Coast farming spot was already pretty fast.

Both are valid options. Killing creatures in Wrothgar is of course slightly faster, but you don't have to do that. It even introduces an RP mechanic if you want. Do you want to get the 1000 by any means necessary and save a few minutes, or do you want to kill actual enemies that attack you back? With the reward coming either way, the only question is your morals.

My eye was set on the prize, so all squirrels and bunnies must die.

I distinctly remember there being a fuss about this when something like this came up for a weekly Endeavor (or was it a Golden Pursuit)?

There are three major problems here:

First, and most importantly: The overland restriction is horrible, since the last time you did this, it basically depopulated those zones of enemies and people were complaining about not being able to find enemies to kill. It makes no sense to exclude instanced content within those zones, esp. private instanced content like dungeons or arenas where players would not be competing for kills with other players (this could've been a good excuse to run vMA a few times, except that doesn't work). Right now, it forces players to compete against one another for kills, and that's incredibly frustrating.

Second: At least with Endeavors or Golden Pursuits, you can choose to do an alternative objective. Or with weekly challenges, you can reroll them. But this one? There's no reroll, no alternative options.

Finally: Why is it kill 1000, claim 1x, instead of kill 100, claim 10x? I thought that the whole point of the multi-claim system is to give people gradual progress instead of large unwieldy lump-sum all-or-nothing affairs?

And my burning question, @ZOS_Kevin, did anyone at ZOS play-test this challenge? Or read any of the player feedback the last time you had this as an Endeavor? Because it sure as hell sounds like the answer is no.

Sorry, I'm still at work and haven't been in game yet. This is a challenge you can't reroll? Like the one with opening boxes from last week? Also, we got new challenges today? I had hoped they'd roll over on Tuesday, just fine my own sanity since that's when fallouts weekly stuff rolls over. Not that that's a huge deal. Oh man I can see this getting bad in those zones.

    Yeah, its a new Weekly
