It does most certainly not work fine.
I made a post about this in the bug forum and several other people confirmed it as well. So at least theres a significant amount of people affected by this.

    I want my pants too.

It has a timer. I did it with my main but did not see the timer, so missed the loot.
Today I did the quest with an alt and got breeches + a purple reward box.

You have got to be sh*tting me. They put the collectible reward behind a time gate, despite not a single quest in the game functioning like that up until now? This DLC just continues to amaze me with the sheer amount of pee-poor implementation decisions.

Well, it's confirmed anyway, just did the quest on an alt, this time paying more attention, there's a tiny 5 min window to do all the deliveries in, or you lose out on the collectible.

Now, at this point I'd like to know who decided to place a collectible reward behind a timer in a one-time only quest you can never redo on the same character, in an online MMO with no possibility of saving our game or reloading, and with the only possible solution of having at least an alt run the quest since it's account wide unlocks.

I'm serious, what on the gods' own earth is the point of this? Are you deliberately trolling us on purpose now? What purpose does this gameplay decision serve, other than a big, erected frick you finger to whomever doesn't pay attention to your small timer, or in my case, had it hid completely behind a minimap? Don't give me a set piece reward or gold reward if I don't behave and do your quest within the allotted time, fine, don't care, but for frick's sake, don't yank away a collectible outfit reward when you don't do the quest the "right way", especially when none of the other 6 quests that reward these outfit pieces have any chance of "failing" your reward, nor does any single quest or collectible reward in this entire game.
Whomever came up with this "fun and exiciting" idea, and whomever ok'ed it, both should look for new job assignments in the near future. Really.

Until and unless it gets changed, would abandoning the quest if you've gone past the timer be a work around?

First, I totally agree that putting the reward behind a timer is pretty lame considering the game hasn't used timers for any other quests, either in terms of quest completion or getting any of the rewards. And, when you do fail certain quest objectives, the game just lets you try again. In this case, it seems especially egregious since the reward is part of a collectible set.

However, I'm curious (since I'm on XB and won't be doing this quest for a couple weeks) - how hard is it to complete the quest within the timer? Do you have to run around everywhere immediately without even stopping to take a drink of your coffee or is it at least fairly doable if you know about the timer? I'm not asking because I think that the players who missed completing it are at fault, and I'm not trying to offer some sort of backhanded advice. I'm genuinely asking so I know what I'll be in for with that quest.

There’s actually a decent amount of timed quests, even in the main zone quest lines. Auridon and the Rift I know have timed quests that can fail you, but you can retry them as often as you need.

It really not hard at all to complete within the time limit. It’s five minutes for four stops all within Senchal. I used Rapids on foot for the most part, chatted a couple NPC I noticed had the option for dialogue, and sold off a bit of junk and finished with almost 2 full minutes to spare.

It’s really not a straining timer at all, and the guy really does emphasis extra bonus for beating the timer when giving you the quest. It’s just the timer itself that’s not super obvious because it’s above the quest info and hardly anyone looks there.

Hey all, just to confirm it was not intended to lock players out of getting the collectible for not completing the quest on the timer. We will be working on a fix for this for a future incremental patch.

Thanks! Good to hear that the quest is doable without too much stress, as long as you're aware of the timer. Also, glad to hear that the quest giver at least mentions an extra bonus.

I do know that there are other quests with timers, which is why I mentioned that usually when you fail an objective, you can try again. This is the first time, that I can recall, where you're out a unique reward if you don't finish within the timer, since you're not given the chance to try again if you fail. In this instance, you complete the quest even if you took too long, but you don't get the extra reward.

There are others like that to some degree, like the heists and sacraments. But those are repeatable, so multiple chances to get the best reward, which doesn't involve a missable collectible. Plus, you can abandon those, if you do fail an objective, so I suppose that if you missed the timer on this quest, you could just abandon the quest and pick it up again.

ETA: Just saw Sarah's post. Nice to hear that they're going to fix this to not completely lock a player out of the reward (without doing the quest on another alt). Surprising this went live, given feedback on PTS, but I suppose that it was noted but ZOS didn't have time to fix before live.

Chillax, people. Even if you miss out on a piece from a single quest, you can still earn them from other quests in the zone.

Just help everyone in S. Elsweyr out :D

No you cant. This quest is the single one rewarding the pants piece, other quests reward other pieces, not pants.

In any case, at least this was confirmed to be "not intended", which is a relief, for I sincerely do not want this to be common practise in ESO quests going forward. I'm gonna chalk it down to yet another oversight in quality control ..

Am I the only one that noticed the NPC tells you eleventy-two-seven times that the product has to be delivered BEFORE it loses it's potency? Just the sheer fact they mention it so many times should have been an indicator that it is a timed quest. Not being able to drop and redo is kind of hokey but at least they will address the issue.

Yeah, and the prophet really wanted me to handle that Molag Bal situation in a timely manner. What do you know. His lazy ass has been waiting for me in his man cave for going on 5 years now.

This is video game logic. If I don't physically see a timer, I assume the quest is "timed" only as much as lore and story requires it to be and the quest itself will wait for me indefinitely if needed.

I had 2 minutes left on the timer for my last delivery, crossing the town I hit a loadscreen.
When I came out of the loadscreen I had 17 seconds left, and I failed. :(

    Greetings,

We have gone ahead and closed this thread down since it is rather old. Please keep in mind that sometimes it is better to create a new topic, instead of replying in one that was posted a while ago.

    Thank you for your understanding.
