Can You Interrupt from a Distance?

I finally figured out how to block and then counterattack, but I'm still not understanding how to interrupt properly. I see the little red sparks coming out and I then hold right mouse button and then hit left mouse button. But I can never tell if it has any effect. Since (I think) you usually interrupt casters, who usually are at a distance to you, does that mean you can interrupt from a distance or do you have to be right up in their face like with block? Thanks in advance anyone can explain this to me!

from a distance it requires a skill like the morphed version of poison arrow

What you describe does have an effect. The visual indicator is usually the foe hanging their head along with a light blue spinning "circle" over their head if you did interrupt them. But not always. The best indicator is that the foe didn't execute the attack and is not attacking you for some second(s?). As you practice using the mouse based interrupt you will get a feel for the indications that you did it correctly. Keep using this method of interrupt as much as possible. You won't be spamming your resource pools then and can save the interrupts on your skill bar for when you really need them.

Since there are so many options available for doing a distance interrupt (wide mix of class/weapon skills) what you finally settle on is up to you. Have at least one skill that interrupts at a distance though. As you have seen, those range attack foes are a problem if you are busy with melee foes in your face.

Also, as a suggestion, do not stand still. Keep moving. AOE attacks on you will often "miss" because you are not where you were when the foe executes it. Plus a moving target is harder to hit.

My opinion only but with mobs. Take out the range attackers and/or healers first. Keep moving away from any melee attackers until you are ready for them.

As noted, you don't HAVE to interrupt all spells. I've almost gotten to the point I can predict when a foe will fire a straight-line wall of fire attack, so I just side-step (not dodge-roll, just casually walk out of the line of fire) and I don't have to interrupt. Or they will throw fireballs up into the air that I know will land and create 'hot spots' on the ground.... so I just move around and avoid them, instead of trying to interrupt.

Now, if you happen to BE in melee range (or have an interrupt skill) it can certainly be useful to get the stun effect on the would-be caster.

Bear in mind you can also interrupt spiders cannibalizing their own to heal, eg. Not just attacks on YOU. Not sure if the Poison Arrow morph would interrupt that case --- depends on whether they consider that 'casting' or not --- but I know you can interrupt/stun spiders who are feeding using the both-click interrupt in melee.

@Sorpaijen_ESO - I will avoid a spoiler and just add that spiders are not the only critters to use that cannibalize skill to heal. There are others.

the poison arrow won't interrupt that no; that requires scatter shot

as the description says the venom arrow basicly only works on channeled spells.
scatter shot works on everything... provided the enemy is susceptible to scatter shot anyway..

You can interrupt from a distance using spells that have that ability.
For a interrupt with your character, you have to be closeup to the mob.

DK can use earthen fist. Fairly close range.

With NightBlade you can use shadow cloak and its morphs as a ranged interrupt. I never managed to interrupt from range with the normal move though.

You can also kill the opponent. I have found that killing the opponent will interrupt them every time.
