    The short answer: no.

The long answer: if you want to, you can, but you shouldn't. Why? Because other armor types (medium and light) give bonuses to stamina and magicka respectively. It would be better, imo, to go with 5 pieces of heavy (to make sure you qualify for all of the heavy armor bonuses) and two pieces of either light or medium, depending on whether you primarily use magicka or stamina for your abilities.

i find using 5 medium and 2 light more worth it, with the right setup of course the minor armor loss wont cripple you as hard compaired to being dependant on heavy since most of heavies perks are... well lame...

7/7 heavy, full impenetrable(if playing PvP; otherwise, do a mixture of divines/infused), 40K+ HP, 4.5K+ health regen(possible to get 5K+ if you use a certain set).

Is the build you can accomplish if you wore full heavy with certain sets. From the looks of it, ZoS wants this way to be the new method of becoming a tank. High health with high health regen, at least for DK that is. In my testing, it's decent in PvP/PvE, but my stam build still out performs it even when wearing full medium.

Yes. In any real RPG tanking in anything other than full heavy armour simply shouldn't be viable, period.

Depends on a few things like your groups set up plus what it is you're trying to tank. In something like SO, yes you will most likely need to, but other things it might not be necessary.

Personnally I'd go 7/7 heavy. But I'm old school. Most think 5H 1L 1M or two of light/med for that stim or mag bonuses, but I like having more armor and resist.

With dk passives extra block mitigation there's really no need to run 7heavy max cap for mitigation is 50% I believe you benefit from the extra passives 1l and 1m gives you plus the undaunted passives

Ya but you missed the part where I'm old school and I like to have my tank in full heavy. Not saying your way is wrong but my way isnt wrong either. I have completed everything with no issues. Also its my toon and I'll play how I want. If I'm pvping or what not and stop my mitigation at 50% and get debuffed my mitigation isnt 50% anymore is it?

You can even tank Mantikora with 5m/1l/1h without using armour master.

However, if you are new to tanking, I'd recommend using at least 5 heavy. You can combine that with 1l, 1m for the undaunted passive, 2l for cheaper magicka costs or 2m for cheaper stamina costs. Once you learned how to sustain your stamina and know which bosses hit how hard, you can start experimenting with other armour.

Depends on the content ur tanking, vet prison, wgt and trials then 7 heavy as YOU need to be armour capped and play a tank as a tank. Anything else do what you like, tanks arnt even needed which is a shame as i only play tanks

i use 7/7 because i like to hit capped armor, and find resource no problems as i use drinks or orsinium max health plus regen for difficult content. but depends a lot on what group you run with and if you are hitting the cap without it which is dependant on sets and so on. there are many way to tank. depends what works for the group/dungeon

I run all heavy with 5 willows, 4 oblivions foe, 3 endurance, the steed mundus, and tri drink.

sure damage is nowhere to be found, but you never die, can spam any and all types of skills without worry, and can afk in packs of weaker mobs. that said if I had the full undaunted bonus I would run 1 light 1 med for the 6% resources.

I stopped tanking because PvP, but if I wanted to tank again, I would go for medium armor master + templar rune (or any other ability that gives me major resist buffs). I think that would be hell of a setup.

If you use 5 of something and 2 of another would balance everything very well. You will not lose big amount of tankiness for 2 pieces.

The most important is do a consistent and good build to tank, know how to tank and etc.

5 heavy, 1 medium and 1 light i use for the undaunted passive.

You can easilly get to 33k resistance with it, just using thr right sets.

5 armor master, and 2 medium infused bloodspawn or wardens. Footman rings and endurance neck, sword and board. Pretty much cuts it as good as I can get. Our trial tank uses this and pretty much is one giant sponge and doesn't bother the healer at all.

Usual setups is 5H 1M 1L,because with 5 heavy you'll benefit a 20% block cost reduction from HA Bracing passive and by goin 1M and 1L youll get 6% increase to Magicka/Health/Stamina from the Undaunted Mettle passive (assuming you have it at Rank9).

It depends what you are doing, but 7 heavy is very usable for some situations.

For PVE hardest dungeons and trials, at least 5 heavy.
For PVE other dungeons, light will do.
For PVP I strongly reccomend at least 5 heavy. Unless you run with large groups.

I'd use 7 heavy in all cases but I prefer the undaunted bonus.

Depends on what your referencing, if your talking pvp ask someone else, im a pve console player, i have a NB tank that i use that heals for about 5-6k per second, wearing 5piece kags with only 18k pres and 22k sres, but can tank every dungeon in game including v16 vet prison without glitching it, ohh the joys of CP. But a buddy of mine runs a 5 light magica based DK with 1heavy/1med. using armor masters, bloodspawn and pariah. easy breaks the resistance cap, given (console numbers) ~5k def bonus from spiked armor, ~6.5 from blood spawn, ~5k from armor master proc, and up to ~8k from pariah (maxes out at about 30% hp) thats 16.5 before paria and up to 24.5k with paria fully buffed, add in the bonus from total 4k each from armor master/pariah combined, thats 20k before you factor in the armor from the gear itself. Also passives from class skills and what have you, she is breaking the resistance cap of 33.5k res, plus very big shields from harness magic and obsidian shield. I told her not to bother with it, but i was shocked when it worked well. now me i have been tanking since the days of tibia, which was back in 97... hard to get more old school long time tank than almost 20 years now of mmo tanking, im hardcore atleast 5 heavy, for the heavy bonus's but then again mainline tanks get boring for me cuz its personally to easy thus the NB tank and a sorc tank on the way. so go with what you want so long as you can make it work, i dont run with healers for wgt and i put out about 13k dps as a tank, if you can work it USE IT.

TLDR: make it work and use it this game is crazy flexible and almost anything can work.... love it/hate it at the same time.
