They certainly could do that, but would it be a good idea?Imperial City will come first, I am doubting that will be free either (It may be in Cyrodiil, but it will be in different instances, so they can likely put that behind a paywall)
They certainly could do that, but would it be a good idea?Imperial City will come first, I am doubting that will be free either (It may be in Cyrodiil, but it will be in different instances, so they can likely put that behind a paywall)
Situation 1:
"Hey guys! I just bought Imperial City! Let's go check it out!"
"Sorry dude, our alliance doesn't own all our home keeps right now, you can't get in."
"Seriously? I can't check out content that I just paid $15 for?" /ragequit
Situation 2:
"Awesome, we only have to get one more keep to get Imperial City access!" *Keep flips*
"Everyone into Imperial City! Go go go!... Except you. You haven't bought Imperial City."
"Seriously? I just spent 3 hours capturing keeps and now can't check out the reward for all that effort?" /ragequit
Summary:
Content with an in-game access restriction/reward system cannot also be behind a paywall, as it will create animosity.
Earning IC access by control of keeps has always been promoted as "the way it will work", like Darkness Falls in DAoC, so I don't see them changing that aspect of it now. It would also be detrimental if they did, as there would be no incentive to capture keeps if you couldn't cut off the other Alliances' access (and therefore had to restore your own).
There will be, because access is based on ownership of home keeps. If every alliance controls all their home keeps and no enemy keeps, every alliance has access. Comparing to DAoC again, it would also be the case that if an alliance loses access, they won't be kicked out, so at that time, players from the opposing alliance(s) may focus on killing all the members of the "losing alliance" so they are routed from the city and would need to reclaim their home keep again before they can get back in. If the opposing alliances are in the city, there won't be much opposition, so the "losing alliance" will be back again quite soon.Cherryblossom wrote: »They certainly could do that, but would it be a good idea?Imperial City will come first, I am doubting that will be free either (It may be in Cyrodiil, but it will be in different instances, so they can likely put that behind a paywall)

I thought it had been said there would be AVAVA in the IC! But it was ages ago they first started talking about it, making it seem like it was weeks away.....

What I think would be about right:I am really curious about the price they will ask us to pay for IC & Orsinium.... I have the true feeling that they are not going to do things right.

Wow, so you really think DLC should be around $25? That's kind of insane. It should be $5, maybe $10 in m opinion.
Yes, that's what I said above. "The content considered DLC by ZOS is the stuff you have to pay for." and "Patches with content have been promised in addition to paid DLCs." DLC is paid, but not all new content will be classed as DLC.Septimus_Magna wrote: »ESO plus membership, second point: "Access to all DLC Game Packs as long as the ESO Plus membership is current"
This means that future DLC's will not be free if you dont have an active ESO Plus subscription, the updates will be free but area's like Wrothgar (and maybe Imperial City) will probably need to be bought to gain access.
There's gonna be some massive sticker shock once IC comes out. Costumes cost, what, $7.50? And we've got people thinking that the content they've been working on for a year will be $5 or $10? It will be $25 at least.

That's a great way to attract new players, with an $85 entry fee.
I know this paid DLC is going to be the push I need to never, ever return to the game.

Oh, good, you're here. I was wondering when someone was going to take my post and over-exaggerate it with some negative attitude.

So you're 100% cool with DLC costing $25?

It entirely depends on the DLC, but generally, yes.

That's getting close to expansion-tier money IMO. That's how B2P/F2P games roll I guess though. They get rid of the subscriptions and overcharge for everything else.
If they included everything from E3 and Quakecon 2014, then $25 would be a good value.
Ok I have a question, will the first DLC. The one containing Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild related stuff, will that have to be paid for, will it be given for free as a gift for the hiccups that have been occurring or will it be free anyway. These are my two favourite guilds in TES and I am wondering if they cost money to buy. Just so I am prepared no matter what happens.
Yeah but the problem is I want to know when they will be released. Will it be in 30 days or will it be in 60 days?
