This 7 second freeze + "unknown errors" are getting on my nerves

Ive enjoyed playing the game so far... (let me stress SO FAR). I am vet rank 1 on a DK, but between the seven second game freezes, the unexplained lag that the entire zone talks about at the same time, and these random DC's for unknown reasons (whatever "unknown error" means... it is getting to the point where I am spending more and more time in other games.

This is why I didnt play at launch... I wanted to make sure they had time to kill a lot of MAJOR bugs.... but the above seems pretty MAJOR....

Same here this is my last day of game time, for this Freeze + unknown error i got every 5 minutes in cyrodiil i don't renew my subscription.

The game runs as smooth as glass for me (60+ fps), but I get sudden freezes / lag spikes every now and again. It's pretty annoying. I hardly ever DC though unless for inactivity.

Closing the Launcher after the game is running can remove the freeze/ lag spikes for some. It does for me.

My guess is if you have the launcher options set to 'always' on the update option setting, the lag is cause when it checks to see if updates are available.

Check to see if AwesomiumProcess.exe is running if it is end process and change the priority of eso.exe to high and see if your game runs smoother.

OMG Im not the other person that is experiencing this. Its really annoying, I sent a support ticket and this was the reply:

I am sorry to hear that you have been experiencing this lag and crashes. Would you be so kind as to tell me the name of your internet service provider? Some players from Virgin Media ISP are reporting that they are having lag spikes. This is causing them to get disconnected from the server few minutes after logging with an "unknown error" message. Virgin is already aware of this situation and is looking into it. As for now, we can only advise our players to contact Virgin Media to report this and have them fixed individually while it investigates the issue. They can request our IP addresses and ports to unlock the situation:

I will try exiting out of the launcher, and will look into Qumolous' thought. I use CenturyLink for my ISP.

But when the lag spike "releases" and half the ZONE is talking about it in chat it isnt an ISP issue....

Really hope you guys can figure out what's going on. Grouping up for PvP is basically a nightmare now either in Bloodthorn or Wabbajack, especially at night time when there's a ton of people. Solo is a nightmare, but in a group/raid is just impossible because if I'm in a raid I crash constantly, at least solo I just lag to hell at times but won't crash.

When I'm in a raid group whenever someone joins I freeze for about 7-10 seconds, when someone leaves I freeze for 1-2 seconds. That last patch made grouping up impossible basically.

I'm not getting freezes.

I'm getting loading screens. A whole LOT of them. Like if the game was too busy doing whatever and "forgot" to load NPCs and stuff, then suddenly after a while I get 20+ seconds long loading screen to load all that stuff.. this is happening since "hotfixes" for memory leak in that legendary 1.1.2 patch....

And around 11 AM to 3 PM I can't log in - I either get an infinite "retrieving character info", "retrieving character info" and DC (unknown error), or infinite loading screen, or loading screen and DC(unknown error).

which is totally infuriating because I can't make my horses to want to eat in the morning.. have to feed them around 4 PM and when they are ready again I can't log in... I'm really losing patience and I mostly play Galaxy of Fire 2HD on my tablet rather than ESO (though I admit, it's mostly because of this damned heat that makes my laptop dangerously overheat even with a cooling pad in just a few minutes - temperatures go from ~43 on idle to ~86 till I feed horses, loot mails and set researches..).

a tip, the freezes happen more often (in 95% of the time for me) as you run + turn your camera with the mouse (aka running around and watching the area to left/right with mousecam) @ 100% viewrange

my hardware is easily capable of that, so no hardware issue (and not got any Problem like that in 3 other MMOs or 30+ Games)

They are looking for a potential pattern in which hardware causes it. It's nothing to do how good your hardware is.

hmm, i notice these freezes as well, but not in PvP as i don't do that much if at all.
I get them in PVE as well, sometimes in cities, sometimes when roaming and exploring... its happened sometimes before i engage enemies and I'm always worried I'll appear half dead when the freeze ends. lasts for about 5-7 (guessing) seconds, ambient sounds and some SFX still play, but the background music i've noticed fades out and is silent until the game returns. Maybe its an Audio Asset issue?
I'm at work, cannot create an accurate DxDiag, but perhaps i'll grab one at home and add it here.
Just a simple rundown of stats though:
MSI Motherboard
i5 3570k @ 4.2ghz
eVGA GTX 780 SC
16gb Corsair mem
SoundBlaster 3D Recon
Win7 64bit
and stuff..

Only Addon I use is Skyshards on the map, forget the name. This was occuring well before i started using that though.

Disable your addons before you go any further, another user reported it fixed their problem:

I only use the Combat Cloud addon at this time.

Also, I don't know if it is related, but the UserSettings.txt tweak fixed micro-stutters for me since several patches back. Give it a whirl.

Changing these line values from "-1" to "0" fixed this problem for me a few patches back, and it has stuck. No more micro-stutters.

SET RequestedNumJobThreads "0"
SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "0"

The file to change is in your Documents/My Documents UserSettings.txt file -- wherever you have it as it is different for various Windows versions... Mac? Who knows.

I use no addons currently.

I to have gotten ALOT of random loading screens when simply running through towns (hasnt happened anywhere but towns).

and still getting alot of the original issues that I started the thread on.

Also I am getting ALOT of bugs when it comes to quests where you have to activate an item while looking at an npc... each time I have had to exit the game and restart the client in order to get these quests to update.

It's become unplayable right now. I'm going to try and get out of cyrodil if I can, to see if it's this bad in the zones. I've tried to camp, and it'll happen half the time, after a few minutes of waiting, the other half of the time it's the "unkown error".

You don't need my dxdiag, you guys need to use your own test beds, this crap should be obvious.

It happens when fast traveling and loading mines and dungens with load screens I believe 100% of its caused by the zone chat because it mostly and only does it when theres a lot of ativity there.

Tried everything and nothing helped. Finally, following Thevampirenight above, I turned off zone chat. Still some lag, but no DC's, no long freezes. viola!

I have not gotten any unknown errors, but I do notice this game is still it seems not very well optimized. I was away for 2 weeks, I seen a patch had come out, was hoping for some performance improvements, but alas...its still the same.

It just seems this game is not very well optimized. I am hoping it gets better, I guess i'll just have to ride it out until then...

I'm just going to say this is my last day so this gets some attention. But like most who say it, this won't be my last day.

Despite the problems, this game is really good... It's like that song "It hurts so good" except for this game you would say "it good so hurt" which somehow makes total sense.

Please fix this up quick so the good don't hurt.

The game mainly runs smooth for me except for when I'm invited to a large group for example infront of the Aetherian Archive or in Cyrodil. The frame usually freezes for up to 30sec+ with a good chance of the game not responding at all anymore and an error upon logging in again even after closing client and launcher for a minute.

I started to have micro-stutters again this morning, and hadn't in forever, so I poked around a bit and alt-tabbed to notice my launcher was 'stuck' initializing. I closed it and alt-tabbed back into the game and the problem was gone.

I really think its time the developers took a good long look at where this game is heading, in terms of people leaving and why , a quick look at all the various ESO forums around the net all reveal that people everywhere are tired of the lag, the FPS drops etc etc . All have basically the same problems regardless of their machine, location, ISP, graphics cards and so on, the common thing here is ESO.

This was touted as being the next big MMO, the "WOW beater" etc but alas with the seeming ignorance of the developers to the problems that the majority of their users have , ESO is quickly becoming just another so-so MMO. And the claim that saying the developers are seemingly ignorant is their standard replies to tickets and no notifcations of any sort that they agree there is a problem and that they are looking into it.

I have been playing this since its release and have gone from being totally rapt in this game to very near giving it away as a dead horse, i have just recently paid another months subscription and unless things pick up during the next month it will be my last.

- I'm kicking myself because after a week of playing this I deleted my account and uninstalled RIFT in favour of this, a decision I am coming to regret.
