Tamriel needs barbers!

I wouldn't think it would be difficult to implement parts of the character creation script to make an in-game barber. I like the option to change hair color or style, or even tweak facial features that are kinda bothering me over time. Sometimes my dark elf with white eyes envies those of her race with red eyes. Sometimes my wood elf would like to wear her hair in an up-do and then take it back down again. Sometimes my Imperial wishes to take a shrink potion because she hit her growth spurt a little too hard and can't get dates.

As nice a feature as that would be, think there are just a few* more important things to address before this is implemented. Maybe way down the line, but don't hold your breath.

Well, topics about appearance change coming since game release, but seems like its too hard technology for ZOS to create place for face/hair/body changes, as well as housing and staff like that, reason why people love Elder Scroll series, but well seems like other things are more important then that, probably they will give us interesting staff, after year, when online will be ~1000 players, at weekends.

I agree...chars do look slightly different in game than on char creation screen and I'd really like to change a few features about my characters but... :'(
I'm not really sure why it's not in the game yet, really. I understand there certainly are more important things to do but c'mon...they're working on improved face animations. That team might've as well made a barber before that. Besides, they don't actually have to invent a wheel for it - the character creation system is already there, all they need is give us some way to access it(limitedly, obviously without changing race/alliance) out of char creation.

would be nice, though personally speaking, not in a rush to see something of the sort brought in. They got bigger fish they need to fry first

in the distant future however, i would love an inclusion fo extra tattoos, facial marks, haistyles, etc. Coinciding with which would be a barber shop implementation :)

The demand for this has been ceaseless since beta. A new thread pops in about it at least once a month, if not more. All we really know of the matter is that the idea is currently being considered.

Just be patient. I trust we will get some sort of appearance editor within the next 6 months at least.

THIS. ^^ I have an awfully hard time believing that the facial animations of NPCs were MORE IMPORTANT than enabling PLAYERS to be HAPPY WITH THEIR CHARACTERS! That is some seriously screwed up prioritizing right there ZoS. FIX IT.

Oh, and while you're at it....give us some new LONG hairstyles that DON'T SUCK. And I swear if you EVER add another stupid mohawk option I will hunt the person responsible down!

    Tamriel really needs them.
In german forums we got a thread dedicated to this matter aswell. One idea there was to implement a NPC to the major cities wich can be used for haircuts, change or addition of tats and scars - for a conciderable price of course. Most ppl in the thread are actually seeing this in a positive way.
    If I've ever offended you,

Paul doesn't want the barber to be just a run-of-the-mill thing. He already said that. Maybe that is one of the reasons, why we don't have one yet. And the fact, that justice system and champion system and stuff like that are more important for them.

But I'm confident that we will see a barber in some way sooner or later.

I agree that this is a priority, as there is great importance to us in feeling satisfied and attached to our characters. It is very common to miss something in the creator, only to realize it down the line. And yes, at times the creator's lighting and angles are deceptive, often leading to looks being different than intended.

With one of my characters I somehow managed to overlook the voice selection and it's so ridiculously off for the character's appearance, I simply can't go with it.

I realize there really is tons of issues that need addressed, but even for a temporary solution, just offering a 'save appearance settings' feature, would at least make deleting and re-creating with desired tweaks to improve appearance a lot easier, and would take very little time/work for the developers to implement.

Exactly. You might as well not bother fixing bugs if everyone has already left because there was nothing fun to do.

And show them lovely beautiful hair and pray they become obsessed with it? I'd even provide styles, draw them out and possibly send them models. Just anything but ridiculous mohawks or dreadlocks. ö_ö

I'd have loved a local "save character" option from character creation, that in itself would do wonders, however, being that its so misleading it would take quite some time and be such a lengthy process. Also considering you might only notice something off with that character by the time they're level 40.
    Not such a wonderful option.

Also, part of the problem with this "Barber" idea, I think, is just they have no idea how to implement it. Like for instance a person can't change your character's voice, height, or size of their hands or feet, but I think those are important to be able to change. I've been pondering about this for quite some time and curious what might seem suitable to have the ability to make such changes.

In my ten plus years of playing MMO's I've noticved that this sort of thing often gets implemented towards year two of a game. I have no idea why this is the case, but there's no doubt a very worthy reason why.

Who knows, maybe it's just tradition, maybe we have to wait for the Zen vending machines on floor 2 to be changed or a new potted plant to arrive in the toilets... - I very much doubt it's about 'priorities', as previous posters have already pointed out, the devs have already spent time on oddly chosen 'fluff' ... improved lighting, more realistic jaw animations, unfathomably chosen 'reward' pets which a great many of us instantly binned after raising a quizzical eyebrow and silently mouthed "Why?"

They have promised us some sort of barber system in some sort of future, so let's take heart in that. I just hope it's within our life time

Okay maybe not "barbers" per say, but this is a magical world, and certainly there is some sort of alchemy that can work cosmetic surgery on the folks of Tamriel. One of the reasons I brought this up is you have no idea how many characters I've deleted and recreated, only to find something else off. I'm sick of recreating characters, leveling them up somewhat, wiping because I decided the muscles were a little too beefy, or the make up a little over the top, or the height wrong for the character, and yes the voice too, only to start all over again. I'm done recreating characters.

I also noticed they now implemented a limit on how many characters you can delete and create a day. Maybe the reason so many people are deleting and creating is because they have to fix something on an existing character and there is no other way to do it.

Even a save feature at character creation would be AWESOME and save so much headache. At least that one off thing could just be tweaked instead of needing to go through each slider all over again.

But for existing characters that are already leveled somewhat, please give us something! The body and face sliders from character creation at a special alchemy or wizard "barber" shop in a city (not unlike dye stations) would be perfect! That is all. Not much new programming except for an NPC or magic mirror in the world. The programming is already there in the character creation files, just copy and past over to something in-game and make the necessary code adjustments to make it happen.

Both my characters don't have any hair because I don't even really like the styles they offer but if there was a barber I would consider getting hair since I knew I could just go to the barber and get it chopped off again. It would be cool to see them implement something where I could just change the entire look of my character as well! So that way I could be fat one day then thin and fit the next day

I would support a lore-friendly equivalent of a salon for hair and makeup, a tattoo parlor for body art, and a plastic surgeon for more extreme face and body modification. With costs that scale to the procedure. It'd be a great gold sink for the player who's already purchased everything and still has money to burn.

Probably because it's around year two when they start adding more hairstyles and facial adornment options to the character creator, and need to give those with existing characters the ability to access them.

Yes we could use a barber; we asked for a Dye system and got it so I don't see why this wouldn't be on ZoS radar as it has been asked for before.

Also, we need a court house for name changes, marriages, and divorces.

They can do this easily in stages. There are 3 things we really "need" right now.

    1. New hairstyles and a way to access them. A barber would be perfect for this. You simply go to the barber/vendor, choose the hairstyle, and pay. THIS option should be moderately priced and should not change hair color. IF it is not too much trouble (and I really don't see why it would be) you can ALSO change your hair color as a separate service that you would need to pay for separately.

    2. Name changer. This should be done at the bank and be just another service the bank offers. Some cute dialogue about how this won't hide you from the eyes of the law could be pretty cool as well. Heck, if you currently have a bounty on you maybe you CAN'T change your name. Unless, of course, you can pay a HUGE amount of gold to bribe the bank official to "forge" your papers and the end result is that your bounty goes away but you are now poor as dirt! LOL

    3. More "adornments" and access to them. Again, another vendor. I kinda feel we have PLENTY of scars and what we REALLY need are more makeup options. Yes, for MEN too! Different shading and contouring can make a tremendous change in how your character looks. More facial hair options for men would also be nice. Again, moderate cost on this. However, as this will likely involve some sort of access to the character creation screen it MAY need to be saved for later and implemented only as part of my final suggestion.

These 3 (or at least the first 2) things CAN be implemented soon and with minimal effort on the part of ZoS. And they SHOULD do it rather than holding out on us in order to try to wow us with some magnificent all-inclusive system with lots of bells and whistles a year or even 6 months from now. Both are too long. We need access to the above sooner rather than later.

LATER they can implement a more elaborate system where maybe you can take a trip to Eveya (a specific pocket dimension of it anyway) where you can pay an arch mage an inordinate amount of gold to perform a transformation spell on you. Mage begins the spell, you are lifted up and bathed in light... and then you are back in the character creator. There, you may change name, sex, and all physical characteristics. You CANNOT change anything that has a stat attached to it, so no race or class changes. From there you can COMPLETELY remake your character if that is your desire or just do all the minor tweaking that you've been wanting to do to make them more exactly the way you've decided you want them to be.

I think barbers should be able to change hair color. I mean henna has been around forever as a tattoo and hair color, so Tamriel probably has it's own herbs that can dye hair and tattoo skin. No real magic there. More hair styles, beard options, and makeup would be great, but I'd just like access to tweaking the sliders in char gen with what currently exists RIGHT NOW. I have a Nord that needs slightly lighter hair and I don't want to remake the char just to lighten hair color.

The mage thing for more drastic makeovers is a cool idea though. My really tall Imperial would like to take a trip to such a mage to shrink down a tad.
