Steam Release.

hakujouryunub18_ESO
Dear Zenimax,

First of all, thank you for finally collaborating with Steam to get this done. This is what a large portion of your PAYING customers have wanted since the announcement of the game. I appreciate the effort, as do many others, as made apparent by the previous posts on this subject. As you know the Steam community is HUGE, and I know that a strong sense of community is very important to this project. So, again, the community thanks you.

That being said, a large portion of us are wondering when we will be receiving our codes to include ourselves in this large and ever growing community. Obviously the benefits of having this game on Steam outweighed the cons for you. So, my question really is this: why is it that we have not received our Steam Redemption Codes?

Almost more importantly, why is there not a way to MERGE the accounts for those with the means to purchase a SECOND copy of the game? This seems to me an oversight, because, SURELY the community and continued support of the fans and SUBSCRIBERS is worth whatever small cost it would be to grant us this. Many of us paid for the Digital Imperial Collections, merely to show our support of the game.

Thank you for your time, I would really appreciate if this was sent up the chain.
Hakujou.

To my community, keep this thread alive! Show them we care. Please add to this letter make your point.

While i totally support this i can't help but wait until this gets locked, ZOS doesn't allow petitions on this forum.

I completely and wholeheartedly support this initiative. I, too, believe that we have been a part of this ESO community in support of a game that we, above all, love and enjoy.

As gamers, a great number of us are akin to the current manner of maintaining our gaming libraries, which is by the use of Steam. As game creators, you must be extremely aware of the this exact trend, and have therefore made the possibility of ESO support on Steam possible.

Yet, it would seem that this entire process has either committed an extreme oversight at the expense of the installed base of players already on your servers. Or, you were well aware that the transition would affect those of us already playing and you have chosen to suffer our grief and "take the hit" in whichever way that may be.

I find it incredibly unfortunate and unfair that we have not received our Steam activation codes if you know exactly who we are due to our accounts already existing. You could track those activations directly through our already established identities within the servers. In addition, as it was mentioned before, there seems to be no possible way to link an account with a newly purchased Steam code to a previously activated ESO purchase.

I do beg your pardon, but this is extremely treacherous in its execution. I expected much, much more from a company I so deeply admire and support. I hope that you do the right thing and aid us in our quest for something so simple.

    Thank you for your time.

I'm with this, if there is a steam version of the game out already it shouldn't be too difficult for each account to have a steam activation code sent to it linking that ESO account to a Steam account and allowing you to add your re-installed ESO to steam library.

    Greetings folks,

First of all thank you for your feedback! We have been receiving a lot of feedback regarding our recent Steam launch, and please be sure that it's being passed along. And while we can't promise anything at this point, rest assure that we will definitely take your opinions into consideration.

    Thank you!

NB: this thread has been moved to the general discussion sub-forum as it was a better fit for that category.

All I know is I feel I got burned. I was part of beta (yeah, who wasn't right? ha) but just now purchased the game from the official site. $60.00, standard rate, I suppose ~leaves that comment up in the air~

Anyways, I purchase the game and install the game and what do I see? Launcher has a news item stating the game is on Steam for $30.00. Being I just purchased the game less then a minute ago the launcher might as well say "Yeah we just ripped you off, have a good day."

I would rather say that's a horrible case of terrible timing (and maybe research, i've heard ESO has been on discount in many other sites too).

I have seen people that bought the game recently getting refunded the cost of the game to go and buy the steam version. Worth trying.

Interesting you mention that. I just got a reply email saying they'll fully refund my purchase. Responding to that email just after I get the full game downloaded so I don't have to repeat it again with Steam. At 75% =)

IF people are willing to purchase it a SECOND time i do not see any negative for zenimax as it means additonal money from the customer and considering the game is already made and only required a steam launch it really only would take codes sent to the existing player base to unlock it or a simple steam button as done by humble bundle....

Zenimax please do something right by your customers for once.
another suggestion is that you could monitor mods approve/disapprove via steam.

The OP pretty much summed it up. I have purchased a second imperial edition on Steam just so I could have the Steam edition. I downloaded the game, installed it, and have logged into my account successfully using the Steam client. The only thing I can't do is apply the activation code for my Steam Imperial edition to my current account. I even have a support ticket where I am told that I can't merge accounts, but that is not even what I am trying to do. All I am trying to do is apply an activation key which I purchased from Steam to my current account. You what to tell me you can't remove my old activation key to add a new one? Who designs your software? Someone has to be able to edit account information. It's a program that your company writes and I'm sure ZoS can figure out how to replace activation keys on current accounts. Seriously, stop feeding us this copy and paste crap and give us what we've paid for.

Why must you replace your keys in your account if you were able to install and play just fine using steam and your current account? What purpose would that serve exactly? I'm not understanding exactly what you are not getting because you cant swap your current "new" activation key that was received and used on your first "primary" account?

Most every game I've ever played that uses CD keys and auth systems uses the key to tie in to your account and they become as one, like samurai. Since you know and accept that you can't merge your account, and dont want that, you just want to 'replace' as you say, what for exactly? You said steam lets you log in just fine with the user/pass primary account, since its still the steam version of the game don't all the steam features work?

Why is it any of your business? I've already submitted a refund request to Steam for a useless activation key. And I never said I didn't want my accounts merged, I said that's not what I'm trying to do. There's a difference. Learn it before putting words in someone's mouth.

    While I agree 100%,

For those of you who have a key that is essentially unusable currently, you could either wait for a resolution on this matter or go the route of selling off the key to a friend or someone you trust. The key will still be good for an account activation, they would just need access to the client download.

It might not be the most ethical or wanted, but I guess it would be better than having an unusable key.

Thank you for the response @ZOS_HugoP we would all be very very happy if we had the option to play our game through steam in some manner. While I'm not 100% opposed to buying another version of the game and then logging on to my old account, I am hoping it could be done in a more affordable manner.

I don't need the dog or the gametime, I just want to play through Steam.

Thanks for writing this, it exactly matches my thoughts and wishes!

Ideally, ESO should have been released on Steam on day 1.

I want to connect my already existing ESO account with all my characters to Steam, but I will NOT pay twice for the same game.

It would be acceptable, at least for me, to pay for an additional 30 days of game time though, to "migrate" to Steam.

Currently I launch my game through Steam by having added it as a Non-Steam game. I'd love to be able to actually play it through steam. The main reason I launch it through there is other friends can see I'm playing and msg me/hop in game, screen shot management is a major plus, and a few other benefits. Sign me up for a Steam code too.. I'd much rather have it listed as an official game in my collection, BUT... no in all honestly you can get a lot of the major benefits by adding it as a non-Steam game for now people, have patience and maybe we'll all get Steam codes eventually.
